Hi Kid In the Hall, did you know that UCR made a promotional Jim Woolridge baseball card a few years back?

And he looked like enormous boss in it?

Oh yea

The infamous error card...

Bump...

Season starts tomorrow with a four game series at UC-Riverside (horrible last year - 15-40; coach is former MLB all-star Troy Percival).

Also, UC-Riverside is the former home of legendary Athletic Director Jim Wooldridge. So, there's that.

Akela Jones is the real deal - she could score 20 points at the national meet by herself. That alone would likely put the team in the top 10.

Had into comms class with not quite super famous Michael Bishop in fall 97. Sat in the back of the glass with a group of people and Bishop would only show up once every 2-3 classes and always sit in the back. On test days, he would get there early so he could sit next to the smarty-pants/goody-two shoes girl in the group (not that you needed to be smart to pass this dumb/pointless class). The goody-two shoes was so excited a footballer talked to her, she couldn't help herself.

During tests, Bishop would whisper the question number and goody-two shoes would then whisper back the letter. So, for 45 minutes, everyone in the back of the room would hear:

MB: One
SP/GTS: C
MB: Two
SP/GTS: B
MB: Three
SP/GTS: D

And so on...

One time, Bishop had the audacity to question goody-two shoes, which was a nice change of pace because it went:

MB: Two eight
SP/GTS: A
MB: (pause) Sure?
SP/GTS: A
MB: (pause) C?
SP/GTS: (looks up, looks at MB like the dumbass he is, then looks down again) A

Silly rule, but Kansas JUCO scholarships don't cover room and board - kids have to pay for that out of pocket. That could be where the $1700 comes from.

What Garden City accommodation and food could possibly be worth a collective $1700?

I presume their dorms are super-fantastic since they start at $1,200 per semester:

Not really insidery info, but a funny story - as most people know, the weekly Bill press conferences are pretty much a waste of everyone's time because Bill never actually answers any questions with any amount of substance. So, what typically happens, is most "reporters" don't even bother to ask questions and it's usually the same 3-4 people that ask most of the questions. As we can all probably guess, one of those people is Fritchen.

I can't remember for certain, but I think it was back in 99 during the press conference before K-State played at Nebraska. As Fritchen is prone to doing, he asked this incredibly long-winded question that took about an hour for him to spit out. It was basically something like "Bill, can you talk about what it's like being in a stadium like Nebraska's with 80,000 fans, a historic stadium, they're all yelling before the game, you're underneath the stadium and you can hear them yelling and you're trying to get your players ready for the game (it goes on and on and on and then ends with) can you tell us what you're actually doing right before you take the field?"

Bill pauses for about 10 seconds (probably mocking the fact that Fritch took five minutes to ask a question) and then Bill says, "What's that game that the youngsters like? Chutes and Ladders? Is that what it's called? That's what we do."

Give volleyball equestrian the Women's b-ball budget and I'll take my chances K-State becomes the UConn of equestrian!

Should be a good crowd for their SuperBowl

Yeah, we usually have a tough time selling out.

On behalf of Doug Compton's proxy, I would like to say: you're welcome!
