We're up to No. 36 in RPI (up from 44 last week). Cincy is one spot ahead of us at 35 with KU at 34. Arizona and ASU both had big drops last weekend - Zona from 26 to 41 after a baaaaaaad series loss at home to Utah (worst team in the league) and ASU from 39 to 45 after dropping a game at home to Houston.

Considering what's happened to us in the Hughes era (frequently on the bubble and missed the tourney every year except last year), it'd be in our interest to NOT be the last team in the Big 12 in consideration for an at-large (though, a team in the 30s should be safely in). With WVU and the Arizona schools somewhat face-planting in the last few weeks, the "Big 12 sucks" sentiment will receive a boost with only TCU/WVU having chances at top 16 seeds (and hosting a regional).

KU plays at WVU this weekend, we're at Cincy, Arizona's at Houston and ASU is at Okie state. If we can avoid the sweep (tall order given our struggles on the road) and at least 1 of KU/Arizona/ASU drop the series, we should be ahead of at least one of those teams entering the Big 12 tourney.

First team listed on "Last 4 In"...

If we could win the series against WVU and avoid a sweep next weekend at Cincy, I think we're safely in.

Lose both series (2-4 or worse) and flip a coin (barring a long run in the Big 12 tourney, which is now single elimination).

I would love to see us dump a crap load of $$$ into an Olympic sport (comparatively speaking) and become dominant in that sport. I don't even care what it is - just pick one and go all-in (times 10).

I mean, Youngstown State won the 2025 NCAA bowling championship. Their head coach makes $50,000 a year. We couldn't spend $1 million a year and completely own that? Same thing with rifle, beach volleyball (ocean adjacent TCU just won that), water polo, etc, etc.

Guess they knew Sheffield (and Guyette) had good outings in them today...

No midweek game and rest up for WVU - season is probably on the line. Win that series and we should be safely on the right side of the bubble.

PBP: "Putz is from Loch Lloyd - I'm from Missouri/Kansas City and I've never heard of this place."

Color guy: "He went to Bishop... I'm not sure how to say this, I'm going to guess... 'Mee...juh'"

PBP: "Yeah, I don't know how you say that either. And, apparently, Loch Lloyd is just south of Kansas City - who knew?"

And tonight I learned that the run rule only applies on get away day. Whadda ya know!

The really ought to change it - maybe in games 1-2, it's more than 10. But, this is getting a bit silly (though, it's good for us to try and cycle through as many of their arms as possible tonight)

Despite some early dipshittery on the basepaths (and the fact that we're turning a pitching staff that wasn't particularly good at striking out batters into a universal Nolan Ryan), you'd think it'd be easy to be happy being up 16-3 going into the bottom of the 7th.

But, what do we do - we decide to put in our only reliever (Arther) who hasn't been destroyed multiple times in the last few weeks. Wouldn't it be a great time to get some of the younger arms some innings - I mean, even as bad as our pen is, surely a 13-run lead is safe? And, also, our Sunday starter didn't make it out of the first inning last week and then we decided to throw him again on Tuesday in the 9th. So, guessing we're probably going to need some bullpen arms (like, you know, our best one) tomorrow.

Our coaching staff is so bloody stupid...

Top 1, runners on 2nd and 3rd with zero outs. Three straight strikeouts. Can't even put the ball in play once in 3 at-bats. Then, strike out three more times in the second. Then, get the first runner on in the third and - must break the strikeout streak! - so we hit into a DP. Then, we strike out for the third out.

BYU pitcher had a 6.61 ERA on the season with a .319 opponent BA and 16 strikeouts ON THE YEAR entering the game. Now, he has 23 (and counting).

This team is cooked.

I'm sure few others would care, but I'd like to see tennis get a bit more. The old "facility" was a complete joke (crappy tennis courts used by students outside the rec center). They redid the courts about 10-15 years ago, but I don't think they ever went the extra step and provided locker rooms and/or legit seating for fans. I'm not even sure if there's a public accessible restroom near the courts (there didn't used to be - maybe there is now). Regardless, I imagine we're still pretty far behind most schools.

Well, it's a bit shocking that Ty "Ricky Vaughn" Ruhl (9 hit batters and 17 BB in 34 IP) and Sheffield (couldn't get out of the first inning 2 days ago and sports a .318 opponent BA) couldn't close things out in the 9th.

4-15 on the road this year (all 4 wins against bad teams).

When Pete's sitting at home again for the 21st time in 25 years as a D1 head coach, he can think about some of these decisions he made during road games (like every year).

The problem is that this team goes from really good at home to dogshit on the road, which is a hallmark of Pete Hughes coached teams in his 25+ year head coaching career.

In college baseball, as a baseline, the road team wins about 40% of the time on average. A good team is going to be at .500 (or better).

At K-State, Hughes' road winning percentage is .338. In 3 of his 6 seasons (not counting the covid year), Hughes has finished with below a 30% win percentage on the road. Only once (2023) has Hughes finished with a 40+% win percentage on the road (actually 55% that year). If you remove that year, his road winning percentage is .289.

So, in essence, Hughes has had a single year where his team played at an average/above average level on the road - every other year, we've been below average (and, far below it in 3 of 6 years). If Hughes managed to be even average (40% on the road), he'd have won about 5 more games every year. Considering K-State's been on the bubble in several of those years (and only made it on the right side once), that truly is the difference between an NCAA bid and staying at home.

When you have trends like this for 25+ years, it definitively says that whatever you're doing to prepare your teams when they play on the road simply does not work. Whatever it is that he does sucks (certainly in comparison to other coaches) and his record proves it. There's really no other way of looking at it.

Don't be a dumbass, we are about to land this guy.

https://www.nbadraft.net/players/andrej-kostic/

ok serious question is it even possible for an athlete with any sort of muscle mass whatsoever to be 6'7 and 195 lbs? The only person i'm aware of that is 6'7 and 195 is Donald J. Trump

On behalf of all White Tiger fans, we are greatly offended by this question

Now tied for 236th (of 299) D1 teams in fielding percentage at .960. Of power conference teams, only Michigan State (below average team) and Ohio State (awful team) are worse.

It's going to be Euros and mid major guys.

If you swap out Euro for Aussies - Florida just won a title with this approach.

Two games in Boston: 6 errors and 6 unearned runs.

We were 214th in the country in fielding % entering the series and we're going to take another plunge.

We're now 4-11 in true road games this year and very realistically could be 4-14 after this weekend against the best KU team in 10+ years (not saying a lot, but still).

There's nothing punitive about it. Surely you have heard people distinguishing between guaranteed and unguaranteed money in a contract valued at $X.

The "pay it back" in your original post makes me think you're paying them and then trying to claw it back when they transfer, which I don't think would work.

An incentive-laden contract would be a better alternative, but I still struggle to think it will work. With the money coming from anywhere, some car-dealing booster somewhere will guarantee the kid dough.
None of the money has to be accounted for by the athletic department, correct? I mean Purple Wave auctions could just pay a player $1,000,000 to appear in some adds with no strings attached, right?

For this reason, I don't think it possible for schools to regulate at this point.

Under the proposed House settlement, there would be a clearinghouse for all NIL that would be managed by Deloitte. The bean counters would determine if any NIL agreements would meet fair market value and would have the authority to nullify any agreements that they deem unreasonable ($1 million to appear in a 30 second ad for Purple Wave auctions, etc.).

That's all fine and good, but the big schools can't help themselves and so somebody like Tennessee - which already sued the NCAA over this kind of thing - will just do it again when they're denied and the house of cards will crumble again.

The NCAA can be blamed for loads of things (including not trying to get ahead of this 20 years ago), but it's not their fault member schools/boosters/athletes only care about themselves and will file as many lawsuits as it takes to get what they want regardless of the wider implications.

Dean has now given up runs (or failed to record an out) in six consecutive relief appearances and in eight of his last nine appearances dating back more than a month. His ERA is 12.60 during that stretch with 25 hits (11 for extra bases), 6 BBs, 3 HBPs in 10 total innings pitched.

Has to get better...

So... 3-4 more players to go.

Still need a PG and 2 bigs...

On the other side, Maupin goes to Nebraska and Ohnstad to North Dakota, but I don't think I've seen any of the others with a confirmed destination?
