Looking like maybe Israel hit Iran so effectively that Iran can hardly muster any effective response.

It’s kinda fun how you can hear jake brakes and Harley’s in the middle of a field that is identical to my grandpa’s flattest cow grazing 40 acre pen.

Oakmont appears to be the most immaculately maintained course ever placed in a cow pasture with a highway running through the middle of it.

I work from home just fine. However, I also admit that 25 year old me wouldn’t have learned a fraction as much working at home as I did working long hours traveling with my colleagues and being immersed in the culture and grind….it was DEFINITELY like an apprenticeship. I had a lot to learn about the real world.

I watched a few okay movies this weekend.

eXistenZ (4/7) - Jude Law and William Dafoe movie that came out in 1999. A little bit of The Matrix and Inception, but worse than both. Original idea and ahead of its time.
Conclave (4/7) - Not my type of movie but entertaining enough to keep my attention. I saw someone describe it as Succession version of the Vatican and that holds up.
The Gorge (4/7) - The trailer led me to believe this was going to be more of a romance/love story but it ended up being more Sci-Fi, which I was happy about. A crappy sci-fi movie but good enough to not feel bad about watching it.

Yes, these were all 4/7. None were great but they weren't bad enough to regret watching.

I think I might watch conclave to get ready for the new poping process.

I’m still absolutely convinced that the plan is to carve up the world between China, Russia, and the US. Everyone who formerly relied on the US for protection better go get nukes.

This is exactly what Hamas wants. They performed the humiliating stunts in an effort to incite further violence.

I think it's exactly what Israel wants

Then everyone is about to get what they want, it would seem.

Threats to democracy have ended in America. The Will of the People has been embodied in Donald J Trump. He who saves His Country commits no crime.

Very very very concerning, but until we have a Supreme Court decision(s) and a chance to watch Trump react, everyone is forced to wait and watch.

The mumped up paradox is that our best hope for slashing defense spending while still maintaining defense quality is the tech disrupters like SpaceX and Starlink, Anduril, Plantir and others and the bitch is that their leaders are arguably no better morally or ethically than the legacy group.  The “good” thing about the new tech guys is that they are used to doing things at a much lower cost than the legacy group.   They would eventually need just as much or more risk of constant disruption in order to keep costs lower.

At this point, any silver lining we have is wonderful and incredibly significant…the defense industry hasn’t been disrupted since Eisenhower warned us of the power of the military industrial complex.

We can pay for any social program you can name if we save materially on defense.

I’m still waiting for Doge to dive into the defense contractors.  If they do, and the secure the targeted $1T savings, then all their blundering will be worth it in my opinion. Meaningful disruption of the status quo in the defense industry has to be the goal or they are just petty vengeful goons deployed by an unserious clown of a president.

Why do you think they didn't start with defense contractors?

I think since 2023 Trump’s opposition would have suspected that Trump’s first priority would be items in the Project 2025 agenda, and that appears to be true (cultural based culling of the alleged woke in federal leadership positions and staff).  The second level priority seems to be cost savings at large.  As for why their second level priority hasn’t dug into Defense, I’d argue it’s because Defense really runs this country and they don’t have the authority.

Dax, I am not attacking you here…isn’t it possible that Biden BOTH valued our European allies more than Trump, AND Biden was shamelessly transactional in getting benefits for his son? Can’t Biden be both crooked and better for NATO than Trump?

Similarly, isn’t it possible to both respect our long time allies AND demand they pay their fair share? Do those things have to be mutually exclusive?

Democracy is not at stake yet…we are objectively not yet in a constitutional crisis. If the Supreme Court rules on something (or strategically chooses not to weigh in and instead defer to a lower court’s ruling), and Trump goes against them, then we will officially be in a constitutional crisis, and democracy will be at stake.

Apple, facing tariffs on Chinese imports, says it will invest $500 billion in US facilities

The headline from CNN is probably giving too much credit to Trump’s tariffs, but the tariff threat is clearly playing a part in this.

This is literally the first time I have ever heard/read that dude’s name. I looked him up and seems his most significant qualification is charisma amongst Trump loyalists. Allegedly his secret service credentials are greatly exaggerated. I did see where he once said “My entire life right now is about owning the libs.”

I am by no means an objective observer, but I’d bet any true objective observer would deem him severely under qualified at the large scale management of serious criminal investigation work.

Seems like a good hire if the goal was to put someone in place to exact retribution for perceived wrongs.

Yet another Trump move that will be looked upon by history as a selfish and irresponsible choice.

How big a discount you think a fella could get? I’d love to get a cheap EV.
