Essentially Flyertalk / Stuff you discovered way later than most people
« on: October 06, 2018, 07:39:00 AM »
I just discovered something that everyone else knew about, and it made me wonder if this happens to other people as much as it happens to me.

I was just introduced to Soundcloud rappers.  Wow.  What a delightful mix of terminally mumped up youth. Like, I didn't think it would get worse than the gangster rap that my friends I listened to in the 90's, but yep, it got worse!  Tip of the hat to these soundcloud youngsters!  Holy eff, those people are beyond messed up.  My favorite is 69 (obvs), but this lil pump song can't get out of my head, and the way he walks around with a tiger and drinking lean doing the pot and super cars and in a school, holy cow!

I must admit, I don't actively listen to anything that was made after 2000, except like the "coffee house" station on XM.

Kansas State Football / Win Baylor game or no bowl game?
« on: October 06, 2018, 07:26:19 AM »
With two wins under our belt, and 7 games remaining, it's getting iffy on bowl eligibility.  It would seem to me, that including this week, we only have 4 games in which we will be less than a touchdown underdog.  If we lose to Baylor, it certainly means we are going to have to win a surprising upset later to stay bowl eligible.

W - 9/1/18 vs. South Dakota
L - 9/8/18 vs. Mississippi State
W - 9/15/18 vs. UTSA
L - 9/22/18 @ WVU
L - 9/29/18 vs. Texas

Remaining Games:
underdog - 10/6/18 @ Baylor
underdog - 10/13/18 vs. Oklahoma State
underdog - 10/27/18 @ Oklahoma
underdog  - 11/3/18 @ TCU
FAVORED - 11/10/18 vs. Kansas
underdog  - 11/17/18 vs. Texas Tech
underdog  - 11/24/18 @ Iowa State

Put another way, lose to Baylor and we're mumped.

Lots of mystery surrounding Gene Taylor.  However, one thing that is not in doubt is the commonly understood fact that Gene Taylor has huge balls.  How big?  Reasonable minds can differ, but I say big.

President Meyers and Amy Button Renz brought this guy in here to get done what John Currie could not do, and that’s put an end to the Snyder Family death grip on Kansas State football.

Kansas State Football / Will we let it all hang out today?
« on: September 08, 2018, 10:40:17 AM »
Will we let it all hang out today?  We having nothing to lose, right?  Is this to be Andre's canvas on which to announce his arrival with authority?!?

I vote we hang out with our wang out.

I just saw that Mississippi State made up a mascot for themselves that had already been taken by another team in their conference, which is the Georgia Bulldogs.   LOL!  What a joke!

A guy at work pointed that out and at first I didn’t believe him, but he was right!

Kansas State Football / Is Mississippi underrated
« on: August 03, 2018, 03:24:34 PM »
CBS guy thinks so....

3. No. 18 Mississippi State: I understand all the reasons to doubt Mississippi State in 2018. Dan Mullen is gone, and Mullen is the person who built this program into what it's become today. So without Mullen, it's natural to expect a drop-off.
But Dan Mullen left plenty of groceries in the cupboard for Joe Moorhead, who has been a head coach before and did an excellent job taking Penn State to a higher level once he took over its offense. The Bulldogs have 17 starters (nine on offense, eight on defense) back from a team that went 9-4 last season. It also has a schedule that's somewhat reasonable (as reasonable as any SEC West schedule can be).

With the recent news of Dr. Sheahon Zenger's (likely illegal) termination as Athletic Director at the University of Kansas, it begs the question "When will Dr. Z come home?"

The answer?

I think there are probably zero positions that Dr. Z is unqualified to occupy at the Kansas State University.  I would like to recommend Dr. Z as President of the Alumni Association.  That's where I think he could have the most impact right away.  I would also bestow him with the title of "Athletic Director in Waiting."  The current AD needs to be given one more year to prove his does absolutely nothing.  Upon final and indisputable confirmation that he is worthless, we can replace the current AD with Dr. Z, and then backfill the Presidency of the Alumni Association with Native Kansan, Manny Dies.

Hey [You]

I didn't actually type your user name there.  That's a SMF function where you can put the word "You" inside of two brackets "[" "]" and it will display the name of whomever is logged in reading a post.  To observe this, go quote someone's post who is referencing your username inexplicably.

Stop falling for it, [You], you are better than than.

I hate February so much.  January is pretty terrible, and then February is just even more the the same crap.

Hey [You],

Stop falling for that rough ridin' crap.

TX, on Kstateonline, the poster who broke the original LHC Bill Snyder retirement during 1.0  is saying on the Foundation board ( that Bill has called a coaches meeting and has asked all coaches to be there, and some have reportedly had to cancel their personal travel plans.   :ohno:

Essentially Flyertalk / Christmas Music Challenge for the Car
« on: December 07, 2017, 02:51:41 PM »
I started a challenge on December 1st to only listen to Christmas music in car, and nothing else, until Jan. 1, 2018.  For me, that means two radio stations.

Those Holiday Traditions and Holly on XM radio.

So far so good.  I am seeing a really solid mood improvement, and my conversational vocabulary is increasing.  For example, in a meeting today I referred to the recent drop in temperature as “the weather outside is frightful” without even consciously deciding to do so.

Essentially Flyertalk / Keurig tastes like plastic, get a MixPresso instead
« on: November 27, 2017, 08:37:29 PM »
Public Service Announcement:  My new Keurig is a piece of crap, don’t buy one.  I had a single cup Keurig for a couple years.  Little guy ran like a champ and produced GREAT coffee.  I decided to get a bigger one, and got the newer Keurig 575, and didn’t read any reviews on it...just assumed it would be great.  Well, it tastes like hot plastic.  No matter what I tried to cleanse it (vinegar, soaps, etc) it still tasted like crap.  Like terrible.

So, I bought an $80 MixPresso (half cost of the Keurig) and its wonderful.  It had the best reviews on Amazon, and they were spot on.

Go Cats

Just read this fantastic article, noting the State of Kansas once again has the best recruiting class, jumping our sister school.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em, guys. we did it again!  :tsc:

I was thinking about this recently when my Dad was telling me how when he played HS football they had leather helmets and there wasn’t as much head-to-head collision.

Our population/history of long term hard-helmet football players isn’t a full generation size yet.   In another 20 years, there won’t be many people alive who lived during the leather helmet days.

So, we will then see the impact of football on health.  It’s looking like those that play through college have higher rates of all sorts of issues.  How long will insurance companies ignore that?  In my experience, insurance companies don’t ignore losses for very long.

Will we live to see a day where our life and health insurance forms as “how long did you play American football?”  And, if that happens will football become too costly to sustain at amateur levels?

This is the official thread for those who feel like they need to make amends to Alex Delton for the hurtful things that they have said about him, or impure thoughts about Alex Delton's quarterbacking of the KSU Cats.

I personally have never doubted Alex, so this is not a thread for me, but is a thread by me for you (you know who you are).  Now, who here must repent?

Kansas State Football / Bench Ertz for the UT OT!!!!
« on: October 07, 2017, 09:40:16 PM »
Delton’s game.  Let’s ride or die with Delton!

I suspect my Combo Fan season could start as early as immediately after the TCU game on October 14th.   I have started to think about what I will think about.

Halloween!  Could be a couple of weeks of intensive lawn decoration, favorite candy, and pumpkin carving  banter.

I am headed to Costa Rica in November, so I will be visiting the Swole thread to exchange ideas on getting huge.  I have been lifting aggressively for the past few months.  You guys should see me naked!  Might also have to hit the travel thread and discuss monkey watching and zip lining with the CR veterans.

Call of Duty World War 2 theme game comes out in early November.  That will take up a ton of my time.  Let's talk about the best maps and guns!

Cider!  Is there a thread about this yet?

October is the best weather of the year.  I might just have to post about weather more.

Most of you know that Austin Meek is my muse (I miss him so much), but who do you guys like?  Who is your fav K-State writer of all time?

EDIT:  And, by the way,  the best writer ever just took over's K-State site.

Welcome to, Rivals’ new site for Kansas State athletics. I’m Jeffrey Martin, the site’s managing editor and columnist. Some of you might remember me - I served as the K-State beat writer at the Wichita Eagle (and later at the Kansas City Star) from 2005-2009 - or the blog I launched, K-Stated. There was a ton happening during that span - LHC Bill Snyder’s (premature) retirement, the hiring of Ron Prince, Bob Huggins, Frank Martin and then Snyder again, Michael Beasley’s transcendent single season, a secret deal with Prince brokered by a novice athletic director - and my reporting was usually in the lead. The plan is for that to continue here at KSO, where I’ll be joined by senior writer Matt Hall, a K-State alum well-versed in Wildcat lore with a background at Rivals to boot, as well as our recruiting guru Derek Young, a former publisher and analyst at

Our goal is to supply you with not only the best coverage of the Wildcats but also the most consistent coverage. In the process, we aim to engage - our presence on the message board will be substantial and we encourage feedback - and entertain - sports are fun, after all.

Take a look around and tell us what you think. I can be reached at [email protected] Hit me up with anything you want, or anything you want to know, but here are some quick responses to what will probably be frequently asked questions:

I am living in Manhattan through the rest of the year but my family will remain in Portland, Ore., for the remainder of this season. I’ll be at every game, home and away, and almost every press conference.

I was contacted and hired by Rivals to serve in this capacity. In turn, I hired Hall, someone whose work and work ethic I’d always admired. (Plus I was in his wedding, so there’s that.) He is, in fact, the manager at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Manhattan, but I think you’ll find that he’s rather eager to get back to covering the Cats, so that’s what he’ll do for us.

You may be least familiar with Derek at the moment, but that will soon change. He’s a star. He’s going to handle recruiting at a different level than you’ve experienced in the past, and his background running Iowa’s Scout team site means he’s much more than just a recruiting analyst. We’re happy he’s on our side - and you’ll feel the same way.

We will have four writers with credentials at every home game.

Lastly, I am responsible for this site. Rivals used a talented and successful publisher as a consultant to find the best person to take over a site this network cares a ton about – but that was the extent of it. It’s up to me to guide our team as we entertain and delight all of you, and I’m up to the task.

Let’s get started.

Kansas State Football / Crabtree, make us an offer!
« on: April 27, 2017, 04:44:54 PM »

Long time fan of yours, so I definitely hated to see the ESPN thing not work out.  You deserve better.

How about the idea of never ever getting fired again?!?!  START YOUR  OWN SHOP!  It's a make or buy thing....why start from scratch when you could own a large portion of maybe the most recognizable name in sports fan message boarding (!?!  ALL reasonable offers will be considered.

Obviously you would probably want your own management team, but I'd like to put in a word for Saul.  Would hate to see him out on the street.

Kansas State Basketball / See you guys next year
« on: March 28, 2017, 06:12:49 AM »
Looks like Laird (Currie's man) is keeping Weber.  I am out on basketball for yet another year.  Let's catch up next year, guys!  Take care!

Oh, remember...if you spend even a penny on K-State basketball, or attend a single game, you are signaling to the AD that you fully support oscar Weber.
