Let's talk student loans, and not those pud undergrad ones with 1.9% interest.  I am talking grown ass man grad school student loans with the terrible interest rates.  Is there any way to consolidate with a better rate or term?

What rate are you paying? Maybe you could refinance your house and use that money to pay off the student loans. It really kind of depends on your situation.
Planning on moving soon, so that hampers things a bit.  Paying 6.7% on a 10-yr term,  :barf:.

I always thought consolidation was more to lengthen the term and lower the monthly payment, not really to help with the rate...  :frown:

We should not spend money on any sport except men's basketball and football.

Those two provide all the others with their scholarships and operating revenue.  Isn't that enough?

If the NCAA would allow it, I'd drop them all, and keep just enough women's sports to satisfy title 9.
We are already at that point...

No we are not.  I would drop Men's track and baseball if I could.

I'm hoping you're not being serious... but if you are...

A 3 or a 4 seed is as good as a guaranteed win in the opening round. I mean, has a 3 or 4 seed from the Big 12 ever failed to advance to the round of 32?

I mean, it would be completely embarrassing if a school that was a 3 or 4 seed lost in the first round. T's & P's to the school that has that happen to them.

Was impressed with the meet.

Kynard wowed, put on a show. Was impressed with the other high jumper, too. And there were a few pretty good long jumpers. Overall it was pretty cool.

They have the Big 12 Indoor Championship this week on Friday and Saturday.

FWIW, this should make the rowing team better, right?

A sign that we still need to not let teams go on runs to begin the second half.

beats top 10 teams away from home in front of the biggest crowd they've had so far this year in the non-con.   :bball:

They were totally motivated by all the butt slapping oscar was doing.

Here's your list of biggest non-con wins by ranking (I think):

#2 Oregon State (1981)
#2 Cincinnati (1958)
#4 NC State (1958)
#4 LIU (1951)
#5 Wichita State (1964)
#7 Notre Dame (1952)
#7 La-Lafayette (1973)
#8 Florida (2012)
#9 St. John's (1961)

I like this. Very much.

Fantastic for the Women's Crew, a $1.3 million dollar facility at Tuttle, now a $5 million dollar facility on campus (the $2 million on the bid is just for building construction, it doesn't cover the training tank and other furnishings in the facility).

$6.3 million dollars in new buildings, just for Crew.

Let's review shall we:

-A laundry list of improvements for Volleyball over the last 5 to 7 years.

-New Outdoor Track.  Resurfaced Indoor Track.   New Track offices and dressing rooms.

-All Weather Hitting Building For Golf, new $5 million dollar Club House for Golf, a $8-$9 million dollar golf course for Golf.

-New outdoor tennis courts under construction.   Yes, it's at the REC but per the plans there's a dedicated set of courts being built for the tennis program and hosting matches.   Total price tag $3 million.

-Women's basketball, a huge money loser gets the exact same amenities in the Basketball Training Facility as the med do.  (I've got no problem with that).

-Baseball . . . in the grand scheme, they probably need another round of significant improvements, but in the last 6 or 7 years they've gotten a lot.   They probably need to have more seating (you know, for getting the elusive regional), they really should have a better indoor facility, and they need a video board.

So K-State minor/Olympic Sports . . . feel free to step up and actually do something for a change.

When did the track team get a new track? They got a new building in 2005 and another storage building and some more upgrades last year. Overall nice facility but I didn't think the track was new. And new offices?

But getting a silver medal at the Olympics and having 7 athletes (current/former) participating sounds pretty dang good to me.

I really hope it tries to start a fight with Willie. Like, so bad it hurts. This would be the outcome:

Let's just beat Texas, win the Fiesta, and then see what happens in the offseason.

Man... 98, 12... The pain will make when we actually do break though that much more satisfying.

The New Joe Montgomery Birther Pit / Re: Subsidizing STEM majors
« on: November 12, 2012, 06:24:23 PM »
I don't really like this idea, even though I'm majoring in a STEM field.

Honestly, a lot of people aren't going to go into a STEM field no matter what.  They simply are not going to be engineers or scientists.  It doesn't seem logical to penalize someone for not being interested in what would get them a good job.  I mean, some people really want to be teachers. Why put someone who isn't going to be making as much money in deeper debt???

Perhaps I'm missing the point of the article.

I've always thought that if we really want more people to going into STEM fields, we need to start it early in school. Place more emphasis on mathematics.  Encourage students to study mathematics.  Help students that don't understand math even more.  There is a stigma about math that it's difficult and not fun.  Trying to force people into STEM fields after they have already been taught that math isn't fun makes things very difficult.  But if students enjoy math in the first place they are much more likely to go into one of these fields.

It is acceptable in society to not understand math.  It isn't acceptable to not be able to read and write. So reading and writing is the primary emphasis, and other subjects are not as emphasized.

I'm just throwing a lot of thoughts out there. I have absolutely no clue how to fix issues with the American education system.
