I know it is also one of my favorite places in the world to visit.
Joel Meyers is clearly a man of impeccable tastes.
My personal fav thing to do in Salina is to ride on the improved CityGo buses to the Smoky Hill Museum, then before heading out of town take the red route to the Rolling Hills Museum to catch a 3-D movie w/ my buddy Joel.

Cozy burgers are GROSS.
Wrong.
Cozies are glorious going in and sewage coming out...inbetween some of the best (worst?) heartburn a guy could have.

I have no idea why you get heart burn from Cozies, I have never heard anyone have such problems, perhaps you need to go to the doctor.

No, you are gross. Cozies are the bomb.

A trailer with an all-terrain vehicle marked with a tag reading "Ride It Like You Stole It" was stolen from the 400 block of East Claflin Avenue Thursday afternoon, a police department spokesman said.

Loss was estimated at $5,200

Salina has the best Ace Hardware in the world.
I used to live a couple blocks north of that Ace store. Such a crap part of town. We had drug dealer neighbors across the street (special police task force rammed down their door in the middle of the day to arrest them), the most white trash family ever next door (ended up abandoning their house one day and a week later some meth heads broke in and stripped all the copper out of the place) and a registered sex offender next to the drug dealers (he was actually a pretty entertaining neighbor, he was a batshit crazy senile dude).
Lots of other weird/sketchy stuff happened while I was living there. It was fun, but locking your doors and owning a gun is highly recommended for living in that part of town.

I had a blast living there because I was sharing a house with three of my best friends and had a very low-stress/responsibility lifestyle. I had to take a year off school to be eligible for in-state tuition before I transferred to Kansas State, so I was just working an easy job and doing a lot of drinking with my bros and watching sports and playing video games. But yeah, I have a bunch of stories from that neighborhood.
We watched several people get pulled over for DUIs right in front of our house. I don't even know how you get a DUI in a residential area but I guess it happens. Another time a group of these black dudes were hanging out on our porch and :bigtoke: at like 3 AM. My roommate's dog freaked out and woke us all up. Roommate grabbed his M4, opened the front door, pointed the M4 at them and told them to eff off. Turns out they were looking for the drug dealer house, but there had been a lot of break-ins recently so we weren't taking any chances.

Clark Street between Walnut and Spruce.
Before I moved there I lived in the apartments by the airport and Tony's pizza plant. Not as sketchy of an area but still kinda shitty.

Ahh. I don't really know the guy, just been around him a few times. I was much better friends with his sister and his brother-in-law was my roommate in college for awhile. Just from talking to his sister, I know he's a huge KSU fan and this seems like the type of place he would enjoy.

My roommate who bought it was recently graduated and had a decent FT job to save up for it. All I have is a cheapo shotgun and an old bolt-action .22 rifle.

City meeting takes paranormal turn
A Salina city commissioner’s dead father believes the city commissioner should keep his mouth shut, according to Salinan Ray Hruska.
Hruska brought a Ouija Board to the city commission’s meeting Monday a week after he and Commissioner Aaron Householter argued over Householter’s behavior on the commission, where Hruska threatened to call Householter’s mother. Later in the meeting, Hruska threatened to call Householter’s dad.
“Householter then said his father was deceased and Ouija Board would be required to contact him,” Hruska said, and picked up a Ouija Board in a Sears bag. “So, contact using this Ouija Board was made and it responded, ‘Aaron, keep quiet.’”
"Sir, you didn't know my dad or you would know he wouldn't say that," Householter said.
Householter attempted to shut Hruska down and asked Mayor Barb Shirley to end Hruska’s turn at the microphone
“I wasn’t going to say this but your granddaddy said, ‘keep quiet,’ too,” Hruska said.
Householter asked Shirley how much longer Hruska would be allowed to speak. Shirley said it was time to move on.
“Aaron, you’re the quintessential tyrant, that is attracted to control,” Hruska said.
Householter said Hruska "harasses the commission" and only provides misinformation to people about issues.
Shirley asked for the next person to come up to the podium.

Glad to see you guys didn't refute my claim "Best Ace in the world."
On a related note to the neighborhood, there is a very obvious hoarder within a few blocks of there. Like visible from the street at 40mph obvious.
ALSO! The few times I've been in that gun shop that has old broken down boats in front of it....well I walk in swearing I'm going to swindle that old codger out of something valuable, but all he has is crap anyway.

Salina is expanding at a rapid rate and is receiving many new restaurants due to our growth. Over the last few years we have gotten a Starbucks, Long Horn Steak House and Olive Garden. Adding to our new list of restaurants is Buffalo Wild Wings. Its location will be just south of Long Horn Steak House.

After approval from the Kansas Board of Regents on March 12, the building simply known as Residence Hall for the last 20 years on the campus of Kansas State University Salina will now be called Schilling Hall.
The change comes after several students expressed their confusion over the literally named Residence Hall, saying an actual name would make it easier to distinguish between it and K-State Salina's other residence hall, Harbin Hall. The Student Governing Association, or SGA, then solicited name suggestions from the student body, and the K-State Salina Student Senate voted on the final decision. Schilling Hall was chosen as a nod to the past when the campus was first Schilling Air Force Base and later Schilling Institute.
Once Verna Fitzsimmons, CEO and dean of K-State Salina, approved the residence hall name change, it was submitted to the Kansas Board of Regents to become official.
Tyler Lewis, Student Governing Association president and senior in aeronautical technology, is pleased the students' hard work paid off.
"Usually when SGA makes small changes around the campus, we only need approval from the dean. But for our efforts to be recognized by the Kansas Board of Regents, it's really exciting. This reinforces the power that a student's voice can have," Lewis said.
The suite-style residence hall was built in 1994 and accommodates around 100 students. To compliment the new name, Schilling Hall also will be undergoing renovations, though the K-State Salina Residence Hall Association would first like the community's suggestions. On Wednesday, March 26, the association will offer a walk-through of an upgraded room in Harbin Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feedback about the renovations is encouraged.

Salina's not that bad. I could easily be happy living there for quite some time. A lot of that has to do with growing up in pop. 2000 rural ks, but I could enjoy most any place really. The only place I'd vehemently oppose is the far out suburbs, exburbs or whatever they're called (and any generally crime ridden and poverty stricken areas).

I'm gonna be honest. I didn't know Salina had a river. I assumed Salina was just like, a bunch of fields and a few pizza huts and maybe a DQ and a Casey's and a super wal mart.

Oh there's no doubt I mean sometimes there's oscar and sometimes there's trim and maybe somewhere in the middle I don't know but you know trim had to take spanish we're talking introductory spanish three times and then you've got oscar swimming around in the ocean near puerto rico and you know those fish and sharks and jellyfish they don't even speak english so it was probably oscar I can't say for sure but the biggest thing is whether it was trim or oscar you gotta compete.

Was at a wedding I Salina a few weeks ago. Took the party bus to Speakeasy, big nose kate's and some bar across the street. The bar across the street had a bartender that used work at Bluestem. @jakesie.
It would make a lot of sense if Jakesie/Stevesie has left Aggie Station to work somewhere else. Everyone over there has been jumping ship lately... :frown:
Ya

Jakesie probably knows the girl that's bar tending in Salina. She was at blue stem when Melanie N. was. That's why I @ed Jakesie/stevesie.

BOGEYSMANIA
a little overdone, but that's better than underdone tots - 5/7
burger was standard diner size, requiring you to obvi order a double chee. it was cooked to perfection, with ketch, must, 'ions and picks. bun was a nice surprise in the softness department. overall good texture everywhere on this burg. pretty much exactly what you want from a diner burg - 6/7
atmosphere - like too gross to be nice but not gross enough to be charmingly gross (could also describe salina v well) - 2/7
example: lots of run down houses everywhere that need remodeling, but they are all from the 1910's and 20's shirtwaists and bungalows with potential. to be truly gross they would have been torn down and replaced with 50's ranches and then also be equally run down by now (coffeyville style)

Only pizzas that cost less than $2.

Ammonia is the refrigerant used for the for the freezers in a lot of food production plants. My Master's thesis was about how to best prevent damage from an ammonia leak. Obviously Tony's didn't read that.

I did. If that sticks a few more years that could be a activity for the kids while visiting.
The trail they put it at The Land Institute backs up to my parents house. Did the 2+ mile loop with the kids yesterday along the river. It was pretty nice.

What’s the deal with this hot ass indoor go kart laser tag etc complex they built? Is it awesome or what? I’m a little jealous mhk doesn’t have something like that

In college one of my research projects for one of my classes included creating like a 50 page business plan for this exact thing in MHK.
The location we had for it was just north of stagg hill on the other side of fort Riley blvd on that big open plot.

Manhattan mall had laser tag at one time!

It’s the Marty Bender thing. It’s was a nice thing to do to get outside with the kids, but nothing special. It’s a 2 mile loop that’s half across the Land Institute prairie and half a trail through the trees next to the river. The only downside I see is it looks like it’s a quarter mile across the grassland from where you park to the loop, so if you drive there it’s probably 60/40 grassland. The trails through the trees overlooking the river were definitely my kids’ favorite part. The river part is what makes it different. It’s also nice with smaller kids because it has a few places to stop with benches, tree stumps & a couple swings hung from tree branches.

true story alert spracne edition***
I was in austin with my family four years ago. I have two boys who were 8 and 10 at the time. Looking for stuff to do for a few hours. Enter.....Blazertag. The largest indoor lazer tag arena in texas! It was a day where they had an all you could play pass. So i take them and they're doing it and loving it and after about an hour of them begging me to do it i'm like what the heck ok. Three hours later we were finally done. It was great!

In one of my classes we were going around telling everyone where we were from. I mentioned Salina and the prof was like "Salina, that's just a giant truck stop, rite?"
Seriously, though I don't care what anyone else says about Salina. From the post-industrial wasteland that is the old elevator and milling district in North Salina to day drinking at Big Nose Kate's to memories of Big 8 women's tourney at the Bi-Center, I will never stop loving Salina.

my parents saw the avett brothers at that theater (they were members for a season or two) and I don't know if they played the Salina song or not but I'm guessing they did!

I had no idea people thought Salina was shitty until I went to college. I guess 20 years ago people from out of town would go to the mall & think it was run down compared to Town East in Wichita and would see the trailer park next to I-135. Now when I go back I can kind-of see it, as a lot of the houses on the south side that were built in the 1970s haven’t had the best upkeep, but I still don’t fully understand how it’s reputation got so bad.
Also, it wasn’t just people from Kansas. My first job out of college in Tulsa was at the plant that took over building all the stuff that was in the Hawker plant they closed. Everyone there that had to go to Salina to move it all also thought it was shitty & these are people that come from much shittier towns around Tulsa.

I can see the truck stop description if you just drive by on the interstates. I never knew how far south and east the town went until I actually went driving around.
Also before i knew any better, we skipped Hickory Hut for Hog Wild because I thought Hickory Hut looked run down. Such a dumbass

I spent so much time running around there as a kid. I probably went to every South/Central BB game for 10 years starting in 3rd grade. Even spent a large chunk of the summer of 99 there watching Cagers games because of a Cager’s coach’s daughter from out of town. I can still smell that building and I think I’ve only been in it once since my high school graduation 19 years ago.

I used to think that western KS started at Russell. Sometimes now we come up I-135 and turn west on I-70 to go to Mrs. Hamburg’s grandma. By mile 248 I feel like I’m in western KS.

I can say that growing up in South Central Kansas, we definitely did not consider it Western Kansas. IRL and on various boards, including this one, it has become a weird flex to pejoratively refer to the vast majority of the state as Western Kansas, without regard to geography, climate, or anything else other than a weird brand of hubris. And that's without getting into the implied premise that Western Kansas folks are somehow "less than." I don't accept that as a given.
"Everything west of Johnson County is Western Kansas"
"Everything west of Lawrence is Western Kansas"
"Everything west of Topeka is Western Kansas"
"Everything west of Manhattan is Western Kansas"
--> Things self-unaware losers from Kansas say.
As you can tell, the scales never fell from my eyes.
-
I used to say Hays, but now I think Abilene.
I definitely have a slightly skewed view because until high school sports I basically only went to Kansas towns on I-70E
-

I-70 plays a major roll in it for me. There are still some turns on it as works it’s way south from Junction City to Salina. Once you get past Halstead road exit 249 it’s almost perfectly straight for at least 15 miles. That first flat, straight stretch is a hard geographical change for me.
I also grew up drilling wells all around the area. There’s a lot more water/vegetation between Salina/Abilene than Salina/Ellsworth. There’s a pretty quick geological change west of I-135 as well.

If you were within Wichita radio distance (in every direction the tractor was facing and regardless of weather) you got to claim South Central instead of Western. Otherwise the line is the Flint Hills. Great discussion, one of my faves.

I love the where does western Kansas start discussion
For awhile on twitter there was a “if you had to get on stage as give a 19 minute talk on any subject with no prep time, what could you do it on?” tweet going around. Mine would be “what are the geographical regions of Kansas” and “where does western Kansas start” would probably just take up the whole thing. I could probably do 5 minutes just on the Beloit/Lincoln/Slyvan Grove triangle and the significance of the post rock line. Probably another 5 minutes on the Volga Germans/Czech descendants of Ellis/Russell/Rush/Barton counties and how they fit in culturally with other areas of central/west Kansas.

It probably has something to do with the defense I always hear given to non-Kansans about how boring KS geography is: "That's just Western KS." Being from Western KS is deemed negative. I don't know why SEKS gets a pass though.

My buddy was the kicker for Kansas Wesleyan back in the early 2000's. We would always drive in from Manhattan for his games and then party with the team after at a place we called "The Spot". It doesn't seem like that exists anymore, anyone have an idea of what it is called now? It was the trashiest of trashy dance clubs, but we always had a blast!

I don't really remember street names, but it was def on the east side, and from the Google street view that looks accurate.

my memory is a bit fuzzy, can’t remember if it was the building on the right in this pic

(i never actually ended up going there, even for drunken lolz)

oh hmm that was Inferno (lol), may have been too late for this timeline

According to my buddy it was at 232 N Santa Fe... so just north of The Alley.

You’re from abilene.

ah ok, I remember it as the blue goat (kinda metal-y vibes) in mid-late 2000s... that block was amazingly dive’y back then, had to be an experience

this is a borderline salina thing but for some reason I went with a dorm friend to visit their friends that went to Cloud County and I went to some roadside bar in the middle of nowhere with a fake ID and got blitzed. I think it was like a dance club? I googled and couldn't figure it out.

The Rock?

That sounds right!

EDIT: yep

lol it was definitely the Rock
One of the worst "bars" I've been to in a long time. I travel a lot for work, and often find myself wanting to go out for a drink. This usually brings me to whatever hole in the wall is closest to my hotel at the time. Being that the town was showing little signs of anything promising, I made my way to this local watering hole. To start the pool tables are garbage, which is to be expected, but with mystery stains covering every square inch of felt, uneven playing surfaces, and faulty returns it was hard to enjoy a game. The bar staff was undereducated in their minimal selection of alcohol, and even more lacking in personal skills. I ordered the same drink on three separate occasions and was charged a different amount each time. I was told upon arrival I was there on College Night, which turned out to be underage drinking night. The lack of concern for minors in the establishment openly consuming alcohol was a shock to me. I have managed and worked in several bars throughout my school days, and I for one would never allow this kind of thing to happen. As a recent college grad, I was the oldest person in the bar, aside from the staff. The patrons on that night appeared to be in their late teens at most. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless the aforementioned is something that peaks your interest.

I won't be surprised if a decent percentage of gE went through the rite of passage at KSU that is someone dragging them to The Rock.

There are certain members of Congress from Florida whose interest may indeed be piqued. Or peaked, as it were.

I have absolutely no idea where Concordia is.

I break the state down into 3 categories, personally. Everything from Salina east, as far south as Emporia, is within the Midwest. The eastern part of the state that is south of Emporia is within the South. Everything else is the High Plains, or the Old West. The line at Salina jogs east a little bit as you move south, because I would include Wichita with the Old West. Wichita, Amarillo, and Pueblo are all basically the same city in my eyes.

I've never thought of it this way but I think your categories are useful.
I would consider everything east of Russell and west of Manhattan to be part of central KS.

I had never heard anyone refer to central Kansas until some central kansas'rs were offended by the western Kansas label.

West Bottoms is the gateway to western KS

If you were within Wichita radio distance (in every direction the tractor was facing and regardless of weather) you got to claim South Central instead of Western. Otherwise the line is the Flint Hills. Great discussion, one of my faves.

North Central and South Central were more common than Central, imo

I'm definitely not from western KS or eastern KS.
Another Salina thing: those flour chips at LaHacienda on Broadway. I really liked those things and their tamales but I think La Hacienda is gone
-
If this is also the Salina reminiscing thread, remember Pizza Cafe? Remember when they moved to the old mall and had the arcade? For awhile in ~1996 on Friday nights they had $5 all you could eat pizza/dessert pizza/pop and they’d put all the games on free play. Just pure heaven for 12 year old Hamburglar.

We were a La Casita family, not LaHacienda. However I did end up there a few times and do remember the chips.

Went to my parents a couple weekends ago. They still have a couple of big JC’s mugs from 20+ years ago in the cabinet.

I just realized Tucson’s hasn’t been mentioned in this thread. My parents love that place. My dad still swears they have the best ribs. They also have a drink called the KS Twister that my dad bribed a bartender for the recipe. A lot of HS girl friends worked there & I ate there all the time.

The revitalization of downtown is pretty great. Former KSU grad architect is leading the charge on a lot of it.

It's no small coincidence that I know which Wichita radio station towers are on the east side of town based on field location and defined Western Kansas as anything west of those westernmost fields

That was a pretty creepy cold case. There is still a cold case of that woman who was killed at her place out in the country a few years ago. Lori Heimer:

very aware of that case. Unsettling they haven't figured it out
-
The Lori Heimer thing was mumped up. I know they called it a brutal murder, but I’m not sure they released all the details. I’ve heard a few that were pretty messed up. I know for awhile they thought it was a random passing through the area that was either hallucinating on drugs or had severe mental health issues. They’ll never solve it.

becoming quite a few fast food places around the corner of ohio and crawford.
A Kansas staple will be opening a new kind of restaurant in Salina soon after officially breaking ground Friday.
Freddy's Frozen chicken nuggets and Steakburgers is set to open a drive-thru and walk up only location, the first of its kind for the company, at 916 E. Crawford St. right next to Mokas.
"This is a great step for Freddy's," said Scott Redler, COO and co-founder of Freddy's. "This is a prototype concept for us with a double drive-thru and no inside seating which focuses on the mobile guest."
There will also be a patio of around 40 seats for customers that want to walk up to the restaurant and enjoy outdoor dining.

Fun fact, in the early 2000s when they were planning on building a soccer complex on the north side of town, I was the one that delivered the letter to the city manager that officially killed it.

Growing up as a kid from KC I always thought of Salina as just another truck stop town on I-70 halfway between the cat ranch/home....we always stopped at the Petro 2 on the way there and back.
Wasn't until I went to a wedding there right after college that I realized there is a whole 50k town that you don't see right off the interstate.
Also Salina is firmly central KS. Western KS starts around Hays where the smoky hills end. If you have to worry about cedars taking over your pasture you are not in western KS.

I didn’t know to look for it.
I went on the train on a field trip in elementary school. We try to do something like that every visit now that my girls are older. Last time we went out to Coronado Heights. We’d talked about the train before, but we usually just end up walking on the Land Institute trails behind my parents house. I’d completely forgot about the train for this trip, but a KSU professor that I see at tailgates just retired & is now volunteering there & he reminded me on Saturday. I’ll ask him how the pedestrian trails are coming.

Erin Wiersma (art prof at KSU) is going to be presenting at the Land Institute's Prairie Festival. She makes these pictures by applying paper to the freshly burned surface of the Konza Prairie. Pretty interesting stuff. I first saw it featured in the Symphony in the Flint Hills 2022 Field Guide.

Speaking of K-140, I grew up in south Salina. I’ve been on old 40 ~500 times in my life. I always thought it went straight west out of Salina. I just recently learned by looking at a map that Brookville was further south than me the whole time. I had a visual what the county looked like & when I noticed it, it blew my mind.

Wow. I just looked at a map after reading this. Certainly west-southwest direction of travel. In my brain, it was always due west.

I talked to someone who has been there since it reopened under the Munson regime and they state that it was good - very similar to the original.

On one hand, having a Powercat tattoo'd to his head looks like is pretty far down his list of bad life choices.
-
I presume that's the Mayor of Manhattan?

could be ‘clams with the sister school Duke/Cats combo tats

Just remembered I went to a place called Blue Sky Brewery last year and had some decent pizza and slammed a few of their pints. No idea what the hell I was doing in Salina in the first place. What's the local consensus on that place?

Need to cross post with the kstateo thread. This guy got arrested in Salina for murder.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230523/c4eb3f28951cce0e3dc4ef6a90a35df5.jpg)

Hiding out in Salina, next to Manhattan, is probably the safest place to hang out for killing a Jhawk. Just saying. :fatty:

Don't forget to stop by the I-70 popeyes and grab the most efficient spicy chicken sandy in the state.
This location is closed. Rip

need another 2-man hutpak with lib.
can pretty much survive on the beans tbh

I want to go after the Kansas Highway Patrol for their trooper arrested in Salina for sexual exploitation of a minor, but the shitbag has a powercat shirt on in his mugshot. Not a lot of good publicity for the Cats in the Salina police blotter.

Agree. Has to be a terrible chain of events leading up to something like that.

Can someone give me the scoop on the Hickory Hut?
Never been before and I'm going to meet up with some buds there. What's the best thing to get?

I need food in Salina on a Tuesday so this is out of the question.

ms ww and I always get Party potatoes. Baked potato, pulled pork, beans, special sauce.
I enjoyed their Slammer sandwich too.

Slammer with a side of o-rings was my order the one time I've been there and I was very pleased.
-
Hickory Hut is fine bbq. I'm not a huge fan of the sauce. It's a bit molassesy for my taste
-
with all their stuff basically being business catering-grade chopped meats that seems like a rough time if you don't like the sauce
(beans)
-
sausage is passable and The libliblib (1/2 chicken) being their best meat options isn’t ideal but it’s western ks bbq
-
I went with the rib dinner. Ribs were kind of chewy. Sides (baked beans, fries) were good. Nice collection of photos from the area on display in there. I probably could have spent an hour or more studying the walls.
-
Tried to go to Taco Grande today. Sign on the door said as of January 20th the location is permanently closed.
-
haha Salina!
-
that place was rough ridin' awful
-
Many years back the one in Hays was the Taco Hot Spot. Top hangout for FHSU BB fans after the game.

The comments under the salina post article agree with you. Never tried it since I never cared for the Abilene one.
Also LOL at people in comments comparing it to La Curva or any of the other sit down places.
-
Taco Grande was good to great back in the '70s & '80s but in the early '90s, they really went downhill, due to Taco Bell moving in and ruining the neighborhood.
-
The Taco Grande’s in Hays & Wichita are my favorite food. I loved the one in Abilene until the people that opened this one in Salina bought it & turned it into a knock-off like the Salina one. I did like to go to this one when in Salina though, just as a change. I ended up going to Taco John’s, which I also like. I had so many Taco John’s taco burgers in the mall.

best way to trashcan your body on "mexican" on that stretch of crawford is to invent a time machine and eat six million taco tico tacos for like $3 on a sunday

There’s a Taco Tico 20 minutes from my office. I trash can my body there once a month for lunch.

Taco Tico is the goat no question

La Casita is still great.
-
La Casita is still great.
Do I need to test this place out? I always end up at Tucsons that I randomly love for some weird reason.

La Curva is the best Mexican in Salina now
-

Did something change? La Curva was very average the last time I had it. The best Mexican in Salina in my experience is Taqueria Fresnillo on Cloud. Might be too authentic for you gringos though.
-
La Curva is still the clubhouse leader in the “Mexican restaurant you’d go to in Salina with other people from Salina” category.
Fresnillo good, place they opened up in that cursed Sunset Plaza location with similar name but more gringo’y that i think has already come and gone was terrible (not in a snob way, just sucked complete ass and taint)
-

I’m pretty sure I told you & Mrs Phil to stop there & you both hated it. It’s definitely a “I grew up with it” thing since it was on the south side & a HS staple along with Tucson’s 24 years ago.
Tuscon’s is great. We ate there all the time in high school. A lot of my friends hosted & waitressed there. My parents still love it. The rumor 25 years ago was the rich guy in town wanted a place like that with good steaks & ribs, a bar & a different type of menu. He found a good chef with ribs he loved. Together they created the menu & restaurant. No idea if that rumor is true.

I think the most cursed location in town is the south intersection of Broadway & Ninth. I think it’s been 6 different things since Key Mar’s closed 25 years ago.

Yes the second one he opened was not good. He was never there and it has since closed. La Curva is a slightly better version of La Fiesta.
-
Salina has a great Jamaican restaurant downtown … never mind. Just checked and it’s permanently closed.
-
We always enjoyed Jaslisco up across from Kohls. La Curva wasn't bad tho.
Also after moving away, I've really missed Mokas
-
La Casita is still great.
Man... Haven't thought about that place for a long time. Took a date there circa 1996.
-
Took all the kids to The Alley. $20 for bowling, the VR thing, & laser tag was a pretty good deal.
-
Time to put the kids to bed and head over to Big Nose Kate's for a night cap
-
Went to Central Mall between lil kids basketball games to try and unlock some core memories from childhood. Sbarros gone. Aquarium shuttered. Incredibly bleak scene.
-
Dunhams still there?
-
Dunhams still there?
Yeah. Made me miss Rusty’s Outdoor Sports. Santa Fe area seems nice. HD Lee Mill in north Salina has been demolished.

The city is spending over $500k on legal fees fighting a mural on the side Cozy Inn saying it violates city signage ordinance.

Salina now having daily morning flights out to Chicago, Denver, & Houston and nightly return flights from those 3 is elite.

Is it that Great Lakes prop plane thing or legit passenger jet?

Legit United SkyWest. CJR-200s. Before you had to collect your bags and recheck if you were connecting through. Not anymore.

that flight to Denver is hilarious. It stops in Hays. I have legit been on it with only five other passengers. They had to assign people to certain seats to make sure the weight was distributed safely.

That’s the Hays flight? I need to flight track that tomorrow.

my dad pretty regularly connects through denver to slc and it's pretty hilarious how many different ways have been invented that resulted in him being 1-2 days delayed either direction. no chance in hell i'd ever fly it if those three cities weren't my final destination.
i did fly it to kansas city once like ten years ago and it was one hell of an experience
