spracne, why didn't you participate in steve dave's farm thread?
The early years of the institution witnessed debate over whether the college should provide a focused agricultural education or a full liberal arts education. During this era, the tenor of the school shifted with the tenure of college presidents. For example, President John A. Anderson (1873–1879) favored a limited education and President George T. Fairchild (1879–1897) favored a classic liberal education.[8][13] Fairchild was credited with saying, "Our college exists not so much to make men farmers as to make farmers men."[8]
Hutch is where people from Western Kansas move to when they want to be close to doctors but don't want to live in the city (aka Wichita).

Dumbass Pawnee County messes the straight line up but there is no doubt Pawnee County is Western KShttp://www.filmkansas.com/s3.amazonaws.com/production.ksfilm.webapeel.com/ksfilm/assets/2011/2/17/1515/kshighwayscolorborderresize.pngYou mean the western borders of those counties is the line, right?I intentionally left that bit of info out because if I need to differentiate that for you it's a sign this conversation isn't one you should be involved in.

I do enjoy watching football way more than going to the symphony, so you might have me on the unsophisticated part.

Hutchinson is a city of the first class with a council-manager form of government.[31] The city council consists of five members. For purposes of representation in the council, the city is divided into four districts with one council member elected to a four-year term from each district. The fifth council member is elected at-large to a two-year term. Every year, the council selects one member to serve as mayor and another as vice-mayor. Council members are term limited and may not serve for more than one partial term plus two consecutive four-year terms. The council sets policy for the city and oversees the city manager who executes those policies. Hired by the council, the city manager serves as the city's chief administrative officer, administers the city budget, and conducts daily city business. Council meetings occur on the first and third Tuesday of each month, broadcast live on local cable channel 7.[32]As the county seat, Hutchinson is the administrative center of Reno County. The county courthouse is located downtown, and all departments of the county government base their operations in the city.[33]
In the United States, an incorporated city is a legally defined government entity, with powers delegated by the state and county and created and approved by the voters of the city. It can provide local government services to its citizens.
anybody still want to classify Hutch in the non-western portion of Kansas?
Hey, you're free to believe whatever you city-slicker elitists want to.
I remember being a freshman in high school and a girl moved from kansas city to salina and told me she couldn't believe she had to move to western kansas. At the time I thought she hadn't seen a map of kansas but now I realize she was just a visionary.

Luke's stock is rising as Winters continues to validate his greatness. Add Luke and Winters to my list! Also, EMAWBLAST! and Tobias!
Also, guys, Kansas isn't in the Midwest. It's a western state. Mocat is one of the only white midwesterners on this board.
Rural Kansans referring to towns of ~50,000 like MHK as "the city" and Wichita as "the big city" was always super fascinating/hilarious to me
