spradling is better than williams.  what part needs further explanation?

i thought you were going to say something like "sprads has better feet and a smoother shot" or something.  sprads looks like he has slow feet.  frank looks like he might fill out a bit more. also, i don't like white players.

spradling has a better body and is a better athlete and plays a position that demands less athleticism/strength.  just switch him off onto the 2 when playing a real quick 1 and he's fine.  w. williams he'd just get killed by the big 2s and 3s in the big 12.  he needs like 30 pounds before he could even hope to stay on the court.

don't get where you say williams looks like he'll fill out more.  spradling is thin, williams is ridiculous.

sprads at PG would make clent look like the fastest man on earth.  so if you want to slide him over to the 2, fine, but imo, b/t the two, frank gets his shot off quicker (granted that's with limited viewing on the interwebs).  also, frank has, like, offers.  franks 2 inches taller and appears like he has larger feet, so I'm assuming he could fill those out, though his shoulders aren't that broad.  also, I don't like white players.

I don't mind white PGs.  They seem to do fairly well at the college level.

peaking of PG's looks like MU got a good one.  Short(5'8") but apparently lightning quick.  I didn't think Anderson could recruit, guess I was wrong.

scott's parents liked tech.

On the way home, Scott got to talk to his parents about what they saw at Texas Tech.

"They told me that they really liked it but it's my decision," he said. "They said that they're not going to put pressure on me. They liked the facilities and thought it would be a good choice."

I'd hate for Knight to get some decent talent.

G-Town commit by Friday.

I've heard through the grapevine the coaching staff has all but given up on him due to mom$ mitchell.  Focusing now on different targets.

no news is good news?  did the visit happen?  someone become a gtown fan and get on their premium board

Shane Southwell update:

NYCHoops.net

In a city where there is an abundance of scorers at the high school level, superior point guards who understand the game are at a premium.

Shane Southwell had an in-home from Kansas State
To find a talented PG at the division one level, one college knew exactly where to go. To the home of Shane Southwell, point guard for Rice HS in Manhattan, NY. The senior spoke with NYCHoops.net about his recent in-home visit and about the three schools that made his final cut.

Last Thursday, Southwell and his mother received an in-home visit from Kansas State. "Coach Frank Martin and assistant coach Dalonte Hill came to see me," said Southwell. According to Southwell, the visit, which lasted about two hours, went, "Real well." "They talked to me about coming in to play right away and about me playing either the point or combo guard," said Southwell. Also present at the in-home visit was Rice HS assistant coach Dwayne Mitchell who concurred that the visit went well. Southwell added that he will be taking an official visit to Kansas State on the 25th of September.

When asked had he cut his list down, Southwell responded, "I'm only looking at Kansas State, Providence and South Carolina."

Southwell says that the primary factor in his final decision will be his playing in the point guard position. "Distance is not a factor for me. The opportunity to play point is important."

With the high school season fast approaching for the defending Federation champion Rice Raiders, Southwell will be playing hard for the repeat but will also be honing his skills for the next level. "I want to play the point, full time this season and work on being more aggressive in my scoring."

As to when he will decide on a college, Southwell says that it will be in early November.

Shane Southwell

2010

6’6” 185 lbs.

PG/SG/SF

#3 ranked in ‘10

Southwell is one of the most promising players in NYC. He has great length and extraordinary talent. Has the body of a wing player, and the game of a point guard. Has great court-vision and finds the open man on most occasions. Can slice through a zone or man defense and finish over an opposing big man. Runs the floor well on the fast break. Has a good jump shot but tends to attack the hoop as supposed to pulling up for a jump shot. Is a great defender due to his extreme length and quickness. Needs to add strength to his body in order to take his game to that next level. – July 19th R.A.

Southwell is an extremely versatile 6 foot 6 player. I called him a player because he does not have a singular position. Because of his excellent size, quickness, athleticism, ball-handling, and natural feel for the game with the ball Southwell can play point guard, off-guard, or small forward on both ends of the floor with relative ease. This ability will prove invaluable for him in college and will earn him minutes with whichever school he decides on.

Southwell is a true NYC player that is not afraid to use some slick moves while playing, as he delivers fancy no-look passes to teammates regularly. While it may look good, Southwell will learn at the next level that he will have to cut down on these kinds of plays and make the most efficient play, especially on the fast-break.

With the ability that he has to see over the defense, Southwell is great at breaking pressure and with time will only get better. He is very similar to Geoff McDermott (recently graduated from Providence) except he is smaller, quicker, and more naturally aggressive than Geoff. Also, like McDermott, Southwell will be at his best at the next level when he either helps to bring the ball up the floor or when he is put in the middle of the floor, at the foul line area, in order to break down the defense with his versatile skill set.

The one thing that Southwell has to improve vastly to reach his ceiling is his jump shot. If he can get some consistency on that jumper he has a great future in college ahead and who knows where he might be in a few years. – Sept. 15th J.B.

The most important thing about Shane Southwell is not that he's a Rivals 150 player.

The most important thing about Shane Southwell can be summed up in 2 words: GAU.  CHOS.

It's been done before.  Probably has a lot of coaches telling him they want him more at the 2 or 3 because of his height.  Hence:

He is a 6'6 point foward who transferred to rice from all hallows. he has great court vision and a real good ball handler but his negatives is sometimes unaggressive and needs make his 3 point shot consistent. He reminds me of penny hardeway.
His other schools are marquette (offer), louiville (offer), seton hall (offer) kansas, memphis and miami, as well as St johns offer.

So, with Mitchell confirming on facebook that the staff is no longer recruiting him, I'm assuming Shane Southwell is the replacement we have focused our attention on.

Right?

If that many schools won't tell you what you want to hear, you probably don't need to hear it.  Still sucks.

Umm... IF we really quit recruiting him it was because we had absolutely NO shot at landing him. If you're being sarcastic you need to put it in italics.  Thanks!
