The forthcoming Leavitt meltdown is hilarious to me. Much ado about nothing. As Jon Wefald said when he reintroduced LHC Bill Snyder as the head football coach at Kansas State University, "Is there any doubt?"
"Is there any doubt that LHC Bill Snyder can't do it again?"
"Is there any doubt that LHC Bill Snyder won't hire a great staff of assistant coaches?"
"Well, is there? Is there any doubt at all?"
What most people fail to understand is that LHC Bill Snyder has an expansive rolodex filled with incredible assistants that would love to come to K-State and work 20 hour days while neglecting their friends and families. Now, you might say: "But most of those assistants are either dead or in nursing homes!" And you might have a point.
Yet still, I ask: "Is there any doubt?"
I understand the disappointment of not getting Leavitt. He embraced the Snyder Way and had great admiration for all of Snyder's legendary coaching philosophies, such as the proper way to butter a bagel. But has anybody stopped to consider the possibility that Snyder feels like he can do better than Jim Leavitt?
There are tons of top coordinator candidates out there just waiting for a call from Bill. Unfortunately for them, Bill has more important things to attend to right now, such as arranging Billy Cosh's transfer to James Madison and public speaking at horse camps. Eventually, though, Bill is going to pick up that rotary phone and start making calls. It will be a national search and there won't be any leaks.
And by the time spring practice rolls around, Snyder will have a defensive coordinator with credentials that would make any K-State fan drool. Two-time Super Bowl champion. Rose Bowl champion. College head coach in a power conference. Long-time coordinator at some of the finest BCS schools in the country.
Ladies and gentleman ... Greg Robinson!
