JL can come to KSU, be moderately successful at first, have 1-2 4* recruits/yr, own KU, have Tech-type level of success and make the occasional run at the B12CH and he will be worshipped by the 'tards and the tucks. I think that would be the pinnacle. JMO

How would it be bad for fans to "accept" this level for K-State football?  Really.  This is pretty much exactly what I want to see.

who do you think would have a better chance of accomplishing this, mike leach or jim leavitt? also, what odds would you give each of accomplishing the above?

Leach b/c he's done it before at a somewhat similar school.  But Leavitt is more realistic to get and not a bad option.

why do you think he is a more realistic person to get?

The tucks would never sign off on Leach. Never.

i wasn't asking you cougs.  :curse:

B/c of his connection with Snyder and I think he'd come here as DC first and not have to be HCIW or something like that.  Its really win-win for him; even if he isn't hired if he can at least put a decent defense on the field he'll be able to get another HC job somewhere else after he's done here.

I'd love to see us try to get Leach as OC and try a similar route, but I don't think he'd do it.  And I'm not sure he'd be willing to coach at K-State anyway b/c he's been around the Big 12.  Its plausable he could view it as a tough job, especially for recruiting.  However, its hard to say with Leach.

Again, all of this is under the premise that Snyder is around at least 1 more year.  We aren't going to fire him, so the only hope would be a 2nd retirement, and I don't think that is happening.

Yeah, just like they'd never sign off on Bob Huggins.

That said, the shirt tucks wouldn't sign off on firing Snyder to get Leach, but Leach replacing Snyder could probably fly.

An article on JL: http://www2.tbo.com/content/2011/jan/12/leavitt-finally-moves-on-remorse-not-likely-to-fol/

That article =  :barf:

GMAFB  :facepalm:.  I just hope for the TBO's sake that guy is an editorialist on the political page and not an actual sports writer.  This expression f a g was intended for that guy.

i agree that LHC Bill Snyder and his not wanting to retire for the second time is standing in our way of getting a proven top 20 year after year big 12 coach (mike leach) that could lead the program for the next ten to fifteen years.

I hope Mike Leach lands a TV show where he romps around the Caribbean on a boat teaching about pirates and hunting for their lost treasures.

I would watch every episode.

I give that idea a 95% better chance of happening than Leach ever coaching football at KSU.

I've hated the hiring of OB since the beginning, so this kind of makes me feel validated.

Oh, and so does everyone else on goEMAW not named Tannoudji.
When he was hired I was one of those "LET'S WAIT TILL WE SEE HIS STAFF."  Loved that VK was on there, then after he left i've been slowly dying and realizing the magnitude of what's happened.

I was so blind.

The rapid downward descent began for me at the announcement of Chris Cosh as the DC two years ago.  There was a brief reversal of course when Vic Koenning and Andy Ludwig were hired.

But now I'm in full on tailspin mode.

Leach = HC
Mangino = OC
JL = DC

The trinity of player abuse + improved recruiting of criminals = more wins

Do not want Mangino.

Why hire Leach just to have someone else demand they run a diff offense?  Leach has offense covered.  Give him a good DC and he would be set.

Would be fantastic.

I would build a closet in a Vanier film room for free if it would get Leach.

Willie, do you have a link for the bolded part of your quote?  I was shocked that Leach did not take the Maryland job especially when you consider his relationship with the Under Armor guy.

Week and a half ago Soren noted that the owner of Under Armor was bringing Mike in to Maryland.  He said that the UA guy is Maryland's Pickens and that he wanted leach bad.  After hearing that I was surprised when they hired the UConn guy.

Either Mike has some other issues, the UA guy liked UConn coach more than mike, or there is some serious power struggles between Maryland's AD and it's boosters.

Bad comparison. I don't think the tucks would have a problem with the James closet deal. I think they'd have a problem accepting Leach's pirate quirks and the like.

Not even kidding.

Mangino would be title only, Leach calls the plays.  Would hire a solid young recruiter, call him Co-OC and let him wear a headset.

No just seemed like alot of reports including ESPN had sources saying Leach to Maryland.  CNS Casey brings up some good points that I never really considered, could be he wanted it and they ultimately didnt offer him the job which would be good news to me because it would mean he is willing to take  HC job at a school in a similar position to ours.  The way I saw it was it Maryland got the thanks but no thanks bit from Leach when it came time to decide.

Yeah...you can go ahead and put me in this camp too.  Here's a rough draft of our official banner:

COACH?!  :surprised: ...  :users: ... :dunno: ...  VIC!!  :emawkid: ... COSH!??!?!  :barf: ... :bawl: ...  :goodbyecruelworld:

God I had totally forgot about Ludwig.  Man, that was rough.  Well great, guess I'll have to try to re-repress that trauma now.

Ludwig was around for a few months and then left immediately after signing day.  I heard him interviewed on KMAN during the signing day special, and he didn't sound overly excited or personable for some reason.  Something was obviously weighing heavy on his mind.   :frown:

Oh eff, that's right! Edited banner:

COACH?!  :surprised: ...  :users: ... :dunno: ...  VIC!!  :emawkid:  :lynchmob: ...LUDWIG!!!!  :ksu: :weirdrobert: ... COSH!??!?!  :barf: ... :bawl: ... :goodbyecruelworld:

And honestly, Cosh wasn't even that much of a concern to me in the beginning.  I just kind of assumed he was given a title and paycheck and told to keep his worthless mouth shut so Vic could do his thang.  Then Vic left and we didn't replace him and I was all like  :facepalm:  :bang:

That's too long for a banner.  eff it.
