Re: Orris. Some moron just posted this over on GPC, probably DNR material but whatever:
The basics are that he is a 6'2" 180 PG from the Chicago area. As a JR in HS he averaged 10 pts and 6.3 asts per game for a team that went 25-4. As a SR he averaged 11 pts and 4 asts per game for a team that went 18-8. Pasted below is some commentary about his game from last year's AAU and HS seasons:
Adidas Invitational 7/11, from Illinois Rivals site:
"Michael Orris - The former Creighton commitment was very solid on Wednesday, protecting the ball and showing an improved offensive arsenal. He had 21 points and 7 assists, with 0 turnovers, in the game we saw, and only missed 2 shots. Just extremely efficient. He also gets out and guards people. His jumper is now much improved, as he hit shots when guys went under screens and penetrated when they didn't. He read help, and hit shooters right in the pocket, making it easy for them to hit shots. The question is whether or not he can penetrate at the Big Ten level, but his ability to pass it is excellent."

"Michael Orris - It wasn't a great day for Orris, who saw his Illinois Old School squad lose in double overtime. His jumper wasn't falling and he struggled to get into the flow of the game on the offensive end. He was just solid, which isn't always a bad thing. He passed it well, but just didn't get enough done for me on this day. He is definitely a solid defender, however and is willing to do the work on that end."

"Michael Orris - The 2012 Illinois signee wasn't at 100% playing on back to back nights for the first time this season after coming back from an ankle injuries. Orris scored 5 quick points with a driving basket and a pull up 3 pointer, but would score just one more bucket the rest of the game, finishing with 7. Crete got off to an 11-2 start, but then fell apart against the well coached Notre Dame squad. The impressive part about his performance was his ability to penetrate and pass going both ways and his ability to use both his right and left hand effectively. He also guards effectively out on the floor. Illinois coaches feel like Orris can come in and play right away as an effective player alongside Tracy Abrams."
http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1305552HS game vs. Richland South 2/12, From Chicago Tribune(linked below):
"The line was open, so Crete-Monee dialed long distance Friday against Rich South to end its regular season on a high note.
The host Warriors' third-quarter barrage from beyond the arc turned a five-point halftime deficit into a double-digit lead during a 65-52 victory against Rich South.
"It's a game of runs, and guys were in the right spots at the right time," said Illinois-bound guard Michael Orris, who had four 3-pointers. "When we go inside-out and there are open 3s, we're pretty good at knocking them down."
Six of the Warriors' eight third-quarter baskets were 3s, as Orris, Marvie Keith and Marius Hopkins (11 points) hit two apiece. Back-to-back Keith 3s capped a 13-3 burst to open the half, and three consecutive 3-pointers moments later earned the Warriors (18-7, 7-3) a 47-35 cushion with a minute left in the quarter.
The open perimeter shots were there in part because of an effective inside game in the first half that forced Rich South to foul, resulting in the Warriors' 13-for-15 showing from the free-throw line.
The Stars (19-8, 6-3) ate away more than half of a 15-point deficit, but Crete-Monee steadied itself down the stretch by spreading the floor to create open passing lanes.
"We've been working on that a lot in practice to show that we could finish a game strong," Keith said. "Coach (Tom Cappel) has been saying we need to play all four quarters, and we did tonight."
Player of the game: Michael Orris, Crete-Monee, 17 points, 4 3-pointers."

It's very tough to draw a final conclusion on a player based upon some articles and a few youtube highlights. That said, I think it's pretty clear that Orris has a solid floor game offensively and is a very willing defender. Does he have the athleticism to become a disruptive defender at the Big 12 level? I think that remains to be seen. My primary thought is that I do not expect him to be an immediate impact player, but I do think the potential is there for him to be a solid role player down the line. If he's expected to have a major role in our program, I hope the plan is to surround him with some highly skilled scorers so we do not have to rely on him to create offense.
