Last applied about a year and a half ago and got two BA 100k cards.

my god, the world is your oyster friend.  How much can you spend on the card per month?

$1,500 - $3,000 each for two cards.

You and the wife EACH sign up for BOTH of these cards at the same time:

https://www.citicards.com/cards/acq/Apply.do?promocode=away7&ProspectID=81DDA16581FE4BF7A8024EEFC0ECFB3F&app=UNSOL&sc=4XK4IE31&m=XUSMZB2WENW&langId=EN&siteId=CB&B=S&screenID=3001

https://www.citicards.com/cards/acq/Apply.do?promocode=away7&ProspectID=81DDA16581FE4BF7A8024EEFC0ECFB3F&app=UNSOL&sc=BXD4IE61&m=XUSMZB2WENW&langId=EN&siteId=CB&B=X&screenID=3033

You will have to spend $3k on each card in the first 4 months.  You will then be sitting on 212K AA miles (enough for 2 RT business class tickets to Europe or 5 RT coach tickets).

I would also have each of you sign up for the US Air Mastercard (http://www.mostmiles.com/Chairmans) and the Chase United Explorer (http://millionmilesecrets.com/2012/01/05/chase-united-60000-2/)  because they both only require one purchase and you would then have another 80k US Air miles and 100k United miles combined.

Make sure you apply for all of them in the same day.

Once all of this is done check back and we will start building your hotel miles.  Godspeed.

i would've said the same thing but would have substituted the chase southwest card for the chase united explorer card that sd included. potato/potato though. be sure to do the american ones that sd said though and use the "two browser trick" when doing so.  we can all agree that southwest isn't great but they will be flying out of wichita by the end of the year and for $70 dollars per card ($140 total) and one purchase on each card, you and your wife will instantly have over $1,650 available on southwest and it can be used for any flight. no blackouts or whatever it's just $1,650 straight cash and it doesn't expire.

fwiw, and I wouldn't risk it anyway, but I've done the two AA cards in one day churn twice and neither time did I have to do the "two browser trick".  I have always just signed up for one and then the other.  Usually signed up for the first then remembered the two browser thing and got scared but both times it took it anway.

Do those aa cards promos have an expiration soon? I'd like to put some more distance between myself and my last citibank app but don't want to wait too long.

How long do most airline or hotel miles last?  I know the Southwest never expire, is there an industry standard?

There isn't an industry standard, but most points usually don't expire for 1 year or a year and a half, but you shouldn't worry about expiration because you can just use points to buy something cheap from their online portal, or just register your cards with the affiliated dining program and that should keep you earning points regularly so your points don't expire

Probably foolish and will regret but I cancelled our Paris returns in coach that we had paid 40k AA for and booked US Air business class for 100k United miles.  Will now be flying to London on a 777 in a couple of these:

http://www.theflagshipexperience.com/flashpage.html?en_12

And back from Paris on an A330-200 in a couple of these:

http://www.usairways.com/en-us/traveltools/intheair/envoyfirst/envoyclass.html

225k airline miles round trip  :sdeek: / $35,606 if I was buying the flights today  :surprised:

So you can book Us Air with United miles?  Is there some sort of easy guide that tells you which miles you can use with which airlines?  I'm airline alliance Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).  :embarrassed:

btw, smart choice on the upgrade.  You'll never look back at that trip and wish you would've been crammed into coach like some simple commoner for your return flight.

You most certainly will not regret it.  Flew the A330-200 ORD-CDG business class last week.  Was amazing.  Ummm, let's see, I think I'll have another glass of champagne monsieur.  Then I'm going to watch the big lebowski while I eat my filet.  Finally I'll finish with yet another glass of vin rouge with my dessert before I drift off into baby like sleep fueled by xanax and the fact that I am laying completely flat in total darkness and silence.  Merci.  Merci indead.

The wife and I decided we are never flying like poor people again (on long flights of course).  Gross.

what do you mean by interchangeable?  you can't combine your us air and united mileage if that's what you mean.  when you search for award availability on united it will show you all the united availability first followed by all the other airlines for the same mileage in the same class of service.  we had options of Lufthansa, Swiss Air, Canada Air, TAP, United and US Air on our return. wanted to fly one of the Euros to give them a whirl (and get layovers in either Frankfurt, Lisbon or Zurich) but the timing of the US Air flight combined with their new Envoy service won the day.  a stopover with one of the Euro carriers would have been ideal but United doesn't allow stopovers on one way award travel.

American Airlines today announced the flight numbers and markets for its first group of Boeing 777-300ERs that will enter the airline’s fleet starting this December. On Dec. 13, the Dallas/Fort Worth – Sao Paulo route will be the first to feature the newest addition to American’s fleet. In February, the aircraft will fly to London Heathrow from both Dallas/Fort Worth and New York JFK.

I'll be over here hoarding aa miles for an elite first class flight on a gently used 777-300 if you need me.

So, I've never really paid any attention to Air Canada/Aeroplan.  Then I read this blog entry by rick daris' bro TPG:

http://thepointsguy.com/2012/05/aeroplan-40000-bonus-miles-promotion/

which links to this one:

http://thepointsguy.com/2011/01/air-canada-aeroplan-round-the-world-in-business-class-for-100000-miles-and-120000-in-first/

I then play around with the Aeroplan booking engine.  I can fly out of Omaha in business class to Europe (or anywhere) and stay for however long I want then fly to Japan in Biz (or anywhere else) and stay as long as I want and then back to Omaha in Biz for 125k miles.  I have 80k SPG points right now which would transfer to 125k Aeroplan miles.  pretty great deal.  You could make an around the world itenerary if you paid OOP for some hops around the area you are flying to.  Like, fly into Paris and then hop around Europe on cheap flights/trains and then fly out of Paris to Australia or Asia or Africa and do the same and then fly home.  I haven't run it in coach to see what the mileage would be.  Also, the Aeroplan booking engine is really great.

how does this work?  on their chart, the around the world thing is 200k, 300k and 400k.  so this is considered a roundtrip to asia with a stopover in europe?  bizarre that they would allow that.

is this an asia specific loophole?  or can you do europe 2 with a stopover in europe 1?  or even more nonsensical crap like europe 1 with a stopover in southern south america (or the reverse)?

It's not technically around the world because it's just two stops wherever you want for as long as you want.  But, you can pick whatever cities you want and doesn't have to be a hub like most require.  I figure as long as you pick two major hubs in areas you want to visit you can pay for $70 tickets to other spots around those until you've hit what you want and then move onto the next stop.

seems like a great deal.  but you'd need the time to take advantage.  i don't have any spg points anyways.  but worth keeping in mind for the future.

it just seems like air canada is cheaper than other star alliance members for long haul.  I guess mainly because they allow two stopovers (norm is 1 or 0) and don't require you to do them on a route where the stopover would normally be (norm is always through a location that you would normally have to go through to get to the second destination anyway).

new 60K citi card promo

http://creditcards.citicards.com/usc/thankyou/Premier/internal/2012/April/600GC/default.htm?BT_TX=1&ProspectID=A1D6BFEE428043A99FCD41FB72856B1C

How good is this deal?  Thoughts?

kind of crappy compared to the current 50k one that's already out there because this one only gives you 30k initially and then makes you keep the card for a full year and incur the $125 yearly fee in order to get the other 30k. jmo. not bad but i'd prob just get the one that gives you 50k immediately and then cancel before the end of the year.

and supposedly they're churnable so you could actually rack up 100k points through the 50k offers with no annual fee in the same time period.

I have about 3 Chase Elite cards that get my 8% cash back. And then a Discovery SDS that's great for getting AA miles. But my most used card is a Visa Rewards card.

Clarion Hotel Undergoing Multi-Million Dollar Renovation

Hotel to convert to a Four Points by Sheraton

MANHATTAN, Kan. (June 1, 2012) ? The first-ever Four Points by Sheraton in the state of Kansas will open in Manhattan in 2012. A first-class facility for guests and conventions in the Manhattan community since 1980, the Clarion Hotel (530 Richards Drive) is currently in the midst of a multi-million dollar renovation project. The owner of the hotel, Dennis Hulsing, President and CEO of Hulsing Enterprises, LLC, has signed an agreement with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., to become a Four Points by Sheraton in November 2012. Focused on providing the best-possible experience for guests and recognizing the growth of hotels in the Manhattan community, Hulsing sought to introduce the largest and most aggressive renovation in the property's history and partner with one of the nation's most recognizable and trusted brands.

The initial steps in the construction project began in January with the renovation and enhancement of the hotel's guest bathrooms with the installment of new bathtubs and tile in all 197 guest rooms. Last week, the project entered its next phase as construction began on the exterior of the hotel's east side.

The exterior wall project, which is being constructed by Manhattan contractor Trinium, a sub-company of Hi-Tech Interiors, will include extending and enclosing the outside facing guest rooms on each side of the property. J Webb Design of Kansas City, an interior design company, will be in charge of redesigning a majority of the hotel's interior and exterior surfaces. A number of fellow Manhattan-area entities, including Mid-American Plumbing, Roberts Electric, Tri-City Fence, HTI, Manko, Associated Insulation Inc, Elite Concrete, Ebert Mayo, Steve Miller Construction, and Cool Enterprises, will provide extensive involvement in facilitating assistance as the hotel upgrades and enhances its many amenities to continue to provide guests with an outstanding experience within the largest operating space of any hotel in the Manhattan community.

"Obviously, as the Manhattan community remains in a stage of exciting and continual growth, we remain committed to our mission of providing first-class services to our thousands of guests and clients annually," said Jenn Alley, Director of Sales and Catering at the Clarion Hotel. "We maintain outstanding partnerships with a variety of different groups, including both large and small state associations, intercollegiate athletics organizations and Division I-A athletic teams, and also remain a perfect venue for wedding receptions, family gatherings, as well as an abundance of other independent meetings.

"As this hotel undergoes this vast and exciting transformation to an upscale facility, we will significantly enhance the experience for our valued guests while maintaining the same outstanding customer service and individual attention that visitors have come to expect when walking through our doors."

About the Clarion Hotel
The present Clarion Hotel first opened as a Holiday Inn Holidome and operated under that brand name during its first 26 years. In 2006, K-State alumnus and supporter Dennis Hulsing, of Hulsing Enterprises, LLC, purchased the property, and immediately financed guest room and public area renovations before re-flagging to the Clarion Hotel brand that September. The hotel has facilitated annual enhancements in each of the past five years under Hulsing, including the installment of bathroom tile and granite countertops, and updated carpet in both the lobby and in guest rooms.

About Four Points by Sheraton
Four Points by Sheraton falls under the umbrella of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., with a reputation for providing outstanding service and guest satisfaction at an affordable price. The array of amenities includes modern and comfortable guest rooms, complimentary Internet access, 42-inch Televisions, a delicious breakfast, and a local beer program, Best Brews.

Starwood offers many other hotel brands, including Aloft, Westin, W Hotels, St. Regis, and Element. Guests of these brands can join the Starwood Preferred Guest loyalty program and earn rewards by accumulating points and miles.

Please follow the hotel project renovations on our Facebook page (Clarion Hotel and Convention Center - Manhattan, KS) and on Twitter (@ClarionHotelMHK).
