Program Updates
We created Rapid Rewards® because we think you deserve to actually feel rewarded. And, from time to time we must make some updates to our program. Beginning April 17, 2015, the number of Rapid Rewards Points needed to redeem for certain flights will vary based on destination, time, day of travel, demand, fare class, and other factors. However, there are still many flights which will stay at the current redemption rate. And don’t forget that when fares go on sale, so do the points needed for redeeming for a reward flight on those fares.

As in then miles:dollars rate will vary? Because the number of points required already varies.

I'm not 100% certain what you are saying but yes, the miles:dollars rate will vary. now it is set (other than fees which vary for stops, by airport, etc.) which is the best part about their miles imo. there's no big upside for searching for a good redemption but there is no downside to using them for any wanna get away award redemption you have enough points for.

hyatt card plat status appears to kick in upon activation.  I got the card today, logged into hyatt and I was a gold member.  activated the card online and went back to hyatt and refreshed and I was a platinum member.  then linked to mlife and now I'm gold with them.  pretty sweet! and hopefully it gets me a room upgrade at the aria in feb  :crossfingers:

Check Cyber Monday for deals at the aria if you can cancel.  I got a helluva deal on a suite there last year

tell me more about cyber monday, slash should i wait until closer to departure (July) to book a room at aria? i am also gold Mlife. tia

i realize this got lost in the shuffle of a good ol fashioned southwest airlines value-off, but any aria pro tips would be much appreciated

have you logged into MLife with your gold status and checked for a "tier offer"? The summer offers won't come out for awhile I think.

yes, there seems to be just a generic tier discount of ~25% off for all vegas hotels.

they'll have a good summer discount for your when they roll those out. they just now are getting to spring discounts. vegas does not plan ahead.

thanks

i want something like this:

I called the aria vip line and they gave me a room for $79/night + $140 resort credit.  so essentially $100 for 3 nights.  then if I'm reading this right, once I get the mlife gold, I can get a room upgrade if it's available, so hopefully I can swing a sky suite or at the very least a strip facing room.

yes

you probably won't get the same level of elite offers that someone who gets it traditionally would get. MLife bases your room rates almost exclusively off of your gambling history with them. so, like someone at whatever sub-gold level because they gamble at one of their affiliated casinos will get a much better offer than you would as a gold. I think you are just going to mainly get whatever other benefits are associated with MLife Gold.

like, my bro in law and I are both MLife gold via Hyatt and are staying the same nights for the NCAA tourny this year at the Aria booked at the same time. he got a completely different offer for his nights than I did. He gambles a little bit more/higher than I do but neither of us would be MLife gold without Hyatt Plat. next to our booking it even has wording like "tables13" or something with different words and numbers to designate what you do with them and what level you are.

I just got the MLife email today talking about spring offers that run through 7/31.  It doesn't look that special, as I'm also the Hyatt kind of MLife Gold.

I get emails from them all the time.  I hate spam emails but for vegas hotels I make exceptions and put up with them.  I dunno if it has anything to do with my Hyatt stuff or just that I gamble a good deal with MLife hotels when I'm there.  I got this one a couple days ago which says exclusive rates and two free buffets per day which is pretty solid.  no idea if you can use it or not.

https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?pid=930&host=offer&code=ARBFT51

this one is a $100 resort credit and a view upgrade.  it says you can call on both of these and mention the offer code so if you can't get the computer to work you might try calling.

https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?pid=930&host=offer&code=ARVLTN5

idk if there's something wrong with their system right now or if it's because I'm on my work computer but I can't get it to show me room rates right now.  the best I've ever seen for aria has been $79 a night and I know I've seen it recently.  those are usually weekdays.  weekends they do a lot of $109 - $129 type rates.

it's a pretty great deal when you're in that price range because it's nice as hell but they built it at the absolute wrong time in american history to build a mega huge fancy hotel in las vegas, so they have to cut prices to compete with the not as nice hotels.

I did get a view upgrade last time I was there and the guy said it was because I was a gold member.  it was also the middle of the week because we were there for a convention my wife attended.  things are different on weekends.  if you want a better shot at an upgrade try sandwiching a $50 in between your credit card and drivers license at check in.  then ask if there are upgrades available.  sometimes it works and they upgrade you, sometimes it doesn't and they give you the $50 back.  I have not actually tried this at aria but have seen it work at other MGM properties and the flamingo.  I didn't give the guy at aria a tip last time, he actually just offered the upgrade to me right up front.

I have not personally actually done it, just have seen friends pull it off.  I could probably do it but I would feel slimy afterwards.  then I would see my room upgrade and be happy.

Just got approved for the Citi AA 50K. I did it because I realized I didn't have an AAdvantage account. I spent the better part of thirty minutes this evening trying to link my BA account with my US Airways account, not realizing that my BA account is not the same thing as an AAdvantage account.

/cross-post with shame yourself thread.

That's why I applied for the card, I had only had a BA account and an US Air account until this point.

I've never had any other ID theft stuff but for my sapphire card getting f'd with for the 2nd time now.  New one probably won't be here in time to run up a big bar tab on Saturday.  WTF is their problem?  They need to give out 50K bonuses on replacement cards.

4th sapphire card is on its way.  This time I didn't even get an id theft notice, I just happened to see while I was balancing everything that my lunch tab from yesterday wasn't listed but a $400+ tab to an online shoe place was.  I told the sapphire people that in addition to doing all their closing and sending of a new card stuff, somebody has to pitch me on why I should keep the account open when I have to continually mess with this.

What should I use in the meantime, or possibly going forward, for meals?  I have the Chase Hyatt, Marriott and IHG which I think all do 2x, and the AMEX HHonors Surpass at 6x.  Obviously have the Ink that can do some travel stuff but not as much as the Sapphire if I remember right.

the PC card gives you a free night every year with no restrictions on the reward level. that's, like, really good if you happen to be somewhere like NYC or somewhere with an Intercontinental.
