to be fair, mocat, he did say the LCS. the rich teams are all in the LCS and beat the poors in the LDS.

i did notice that but i would party my face off to be Oakland right now and have the tying run on base in the bottom of the 9th in game 5 of the ALDS

i wonder if billy beane said he felt like they just won the world series?

he probably went driving around in circles in his Bronco or just worked out for hours or threw stuff

Royals ready to talk about Billy Butler deal for teams that would take on DH owed $8 million in '14, $12m in 2015.

Dumping salary in hopes to find a non-worthless DH that can hit a ball over the fence once in awhile.  Shame on Royals.

1. He's not a worthless DH dork.
2. If we improve I'm for trading anyone and everyone. I just hope its not a salary dump.

Butler was horrible this year.  A DH needs to have power.  Butler is great for grounding out into double plays when we really need a run.  He had 25 less RBI's and 14 less HR's (than previous year) in a season where the team won more games than they have in years.  If you can't hit the long ball and can't run the bases without taking a breather halfway then GTFO.

Bring in Beltran or Trumbo as a DH.

You have an odd definition of horrible, considering he still led the team in RBI, OBP, walks, played 162 games, and it was an outlier in his career.

He led the team in RBI's by one freaking run. He's not putting up 8mil a year numbers and is starting a major career slump.

Not clutch (when the only role is to hit the ball).  Team needs power, and one of the more common positions for power is DH.  He was one of the most frustrating players on the team.  You are correct on the statistics above, but he barely beat out 4 others in RBI's on the team.  His defense is awful when he sees the field.  I'd like to see the Royals do much better, especially for the money.  Also, if you don't consider him a power hitter then consider that this was his worst season for doubles since 2008.  He tied for 2nd on the team in doubles (barely beating out Moose and Perez by a 1 or 2 doubles).  He is #52 in Slugging % in the American League.  We have needed him to hit in clutch situations and hes not doing it very well.

I would hope he could play all 162 considering that all he does is bat.

Of the 7 DH's that had at least 400 PA BB was 2nd in OBP and OPS, but 4th in XBH with only 42. The DH cannot only have one XBH every 4th game.

I'm not suggesting that he should be traded, but when you've struggled as much as the Royals have the past 28 years every player has to be on the table - even the face of the franchise.

agree on trading anyone and everyone, if advantageous.  don't at all like the chances of a deal being advantageous when they're (allegedly) looking to trade following one butler's worst years and prior to salary increases.

Agreed, horrible timing. Didn't he have a career year in 2012? That would have been a great time to trade him.

Exactly. If you trade him, it better improve the team more than the bottom line

I don't even mind improving the bottom line if you take that money and use it to get somebody better. If this roster looks any worse going into 2014 than it did going into 2013, then I will be convinced that the Royals just are never going to be good in my lifetime.

Yea, I have no problem with them trading him but 1 of 2 things better happen if they do
1) Dayton fleeses some other GM (lol) and gets a player back who improves the team with greatly increasing salary
2) He brings back prospects and the money saved is used to resign Santana and bring in someone like Beltran or let Santana walk and bring in one of the big FA (Ellersby or Choo).

But if they trade Billy and Max Ramirez is our opening day DH  :bang:

Anyone want to buy any old royals newspapers from 1980 and 1985?

I have 2 shoeboxes full of articles if you want any.

I'm thinking $5 an article? Could probably cut a deal if you buy a couple.

The stuff pictured is maybe 5% of what is actually in the shoeboxes.
