As much as I hate Ned.. I think I'm okay with this. The players had to have been asked about it. I'm part of the ideology that managers don't affect many games at all so if the players think he's the man then whatever.

What I will not be okay with is if DM doesn't improve this team at all.  It's unacceptable and the GM is one of the most important people in the organization.

If you were Getz, Moose, Escobar etc and sucked ass all year with no fear of losing ABs because your bud bud manager really believed in you, wouldn't you want him back too?

Who gives a crap what the players want. They're pros. They should be able to perform for someone else.

I don't think much stock goes into what those players want.. I'm talking starting veterans on our team.

I want him gone, my point was that I dont think it will make much difference if we have another manager next year, but it will make a diff if we add to our team.

The #1 job of a manager is to manage personalities and keep morale up in the clubhouse. If guys like Shields, Hos, Gordo, and Salvy want Ned around then I'm ok with this. I doubt DM consulted with marginal guys like Getz or Moose.

DM should be focusing on making acquisitions to improve the players on the team, not worrying about finding a manager that fits in with the personalities that we already have.

Sure managing the clubhouse is very important and dumbass ballplayers seem to like lots of dumbass managers.  But Yost is one of the worst tactical managers out there.  If I had to make a list it would go like this:

worst: Ron Washington
next worst: Ned Yost

Let's say KC had fired Ned... Who could they bring in that is a legitimate upgrade?

Football coaches and baseball managers couldn't be much more different. Comparing MLB managers to NBA head coaches is a better example. Usually you only see coaches with winning records get canned because they failed to manage egos in the locker room...

And DJamer is about the 10th best player on the team. No one cares what he thinks.

How much $ would that cost, and could it be better spent on a player?

We're stuck with Ned so there's no use arguing. I just can't figure out what today was all about and its pissing me off. A presser to pat themselves on the back and say everyone will be better next year was just so small time. I'm glad you're around here TownieCat, but be prepared for me to melt down about Ned like 40 times next summer.

I have no idea how much it would cost. He's kinda old and just got fired so I don't think he's gonna cost what Girardi or Francona would.

What about Jacoby Ellsbury? He's finishing up a 1yr/$9m deal with the Red Sox, and he's like a Jarrod Dyson that hits .298.

re. moose, katkid had an interesting if true post about him midseason.  it was about the stats of a mean or median third baseman.  they were shockingly horrible.  i think a lot of people, like myself, became accustomed to the stats of players who augmented their natural talent with science.  it is hard to recalibrate.

If he doesn't pick up the phone then we should try Tony LaRussa.

Ellsbury just turned 30 last month. He'd be a moron to sign anything less than a 5 year deal. I bet he'll get something like $65M/5 years wherever he ends up.

I would party like we just won the world series for ellsbury. Because signing ellsbury is exactly the same thing as winning the world series

Sure managing the clubhouse is very important and dumbass ballplayers seem to like lots of dumbass managers.  But Yost is one of the worst tactical managers out there.  If I had to make a list it would go like this:

worst: Ron Washington
next worst: Ned Yost

I feel like Ned Yost's quest for the Playoffs if basically exactly the same as Jim Wooldridge's quest for the NCAA Tournament.  In other words, we keep waiting for it to happen, but it will never happen.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

i'd do that in a heartbeat.  call it paying 25/year for the first two, and 5/year for the next three.  he's going to get a lot more, tho.

Michael Bourn got:
4/$48 = $12m AAV

Ellsbury is significantly better than Bourn.  He's the 2nd best FA on the market and the Yankees are probably 90%+ to re-sign Cano, which would make him the best FA.  Also, Ellsbury plays CF he could get close to $100m and $15m AAV if the Yankees want to get involved, which they should.  Texas should make a move too.  But he ain't coming to KC.
