Was having a conversation tonight about the Royals with a friend who's a major eternal optimist who did happen to bring up an interesting perspective. This coming offseason will be the first time we see whether there's any commitment from the organization to building around a core of players rather than just trying to piece together something resembling a major league club. This season is difinitively pointing out the strenghts and weakness of the team. Coming into this season the starting pitching didn't look great, but a rotation of Paulino/Duffy/Hoch/Sanchez/Chen looked like it may be solid enough to compliment the young lineup and with Montgomery and Odorizzi in the minors help was on the way. Now with the way the season has unfolded the weakness of the starting pitching is glaring and the "help on the way" isn't looking like a sure thing. The line-up is fairly solid, especially if Myers can come in and improve RF over Frenchy. CF and 2B are the weak links, but aren't exactly the abyss that certain positions where just a few years ago. The only area that really needs an influx of talent from FA right now is SP, so if this offseason we see absolutely no sign that Glass/Moore are actively working to improve the rotation then I think it's safe to say that they officially do not care about ever fielding a winning ball club.

quote from the royals scout forum

Quote
I heard the entire interview. It lasted about two minutes, not sure how some of you hate Parkins. I guess I'm younger, so I enjoy real talk, real questions, and real answers. I applaud Parkins for asking tough questions and answering what the fans what to know. Here are the important points.

David Glass wasnt "grabbed" he volunteered to do the interview.

Danny asked about the rumors of him selling the team after the All Star game, or at the end of the year. Glass immediately got irritated and insecure, basically saying they were rumors. And saying he will never sell the team.

Danny also asked what Glass thinks about the fans wanting him to sell the team, he again basically said too bad I'm not selling the team and don't plan too.

Danny asked about payroll. Why don't the Royals spend money, He said the "market" is too small essentially for a large payroll. He said their goal is to "break even" each year.

Glass said they would be willing to spend more and operate at a loss I'f the Royals were winning.

Glass said the Royals have operated at a loss before, and would be willing too again. Then e dropped the mic and left.

Parkins: What do you say to fans who would like you to sell the team?

Glass: Uhh, yeah, I’m sorry.

Parkins: Do you know where that comes from?

Glass: I don’t have a clue, I have no idea

Parkins: What do you say to fans that wish you spend more on payroll for this team?

Glass: Uhh, Well, in a market this size you can spend a certain amount on payroll. You… You’re never going to be able to spend what the Yankees and the other big market teams can spend but our approach from the very beginning has been that we’re not looking to make money with the franchise we simply want to break even and if we have an if we have an opportunity to win we’ll step up and do whatever it takes to… to help us take that extra step. But for the most part all the money that we can generate we’ll spend on payroll and singing amateur players.

Parkins: Would you be willing to operate a season at a loss in order to sign a big time….

Glass: We… We’ve done that before and I suppose we’d do it again.

Parkins: We’re talking with Royals owner David Glass here on the Danny Parkins show…. Putting the microphone down? Oh… oh… alright. Thank you sir for coming on the show he just put the microphone down and walked away.

It is absolute b.s. that the Royals are trotting Sanchez out there again.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

I don't know anything about that.  I do know that he is dead last among AL pitchers with at least 10 starts in both ERA and xFIP (the second might have changed).  He gives the Royals absolutely no chance at winning. (hope im proved wrong)

he allowed 16 baserunners in 4.1 innings last time out.

he should be banned from baseball for life.

A pitcher could load the bases with no outs every single inning, as long as he gets out of the jam, I don't care.

Sanchez doesn't get out of jams.  That's why it's a problem.

Completely serious.  I give zero fucks about walks, hit batters, base hits, etc. Runs. Runs matter.

 uuuuuuh lol... Pretty sure that's the reasoning management must've put used to put together their pitching staff, because it's working.

Even if the law of averages were to be ignored, unless you want to hand the ball to the bullpen after the 4th inning every game, it matters.
