You're right, and maybe I'm missing some larger context, but this seems pretty simple on the surface. Townie enjoyed the season because it was objectively interesting. CF3 thinks that's bullshit because it didn't meet his subjective standards (which are completely out of line with expert opinion.) Townie should be able to enjoy a season where we're in a playoff race without being made to feel stupid for that.

Last year after losing in game 7 of the World Series the "experts" projected us in the ~70+ range win column.  We won the World Series, so don't give me this crap about expert opinion having any bearing on THIS season.

saying that a season following a WS title where we set an MLB record for losses in a month by a defending champ is a successful season, is stupid pamplemousse. we're out of it before labor day. this isn't 2011

He has BY FAR the more adult perspective on this season. Everybody but blinded Royals fans saw this kind of season coming. This is the season that everybody projected we would have. We met expectations for our talent level. That was enough to keep everybody engaged all summer long. And that is honestly fine. If you don't think it is, then that's your problem, not Townie's.

townie didn't say the season was objectively interesting. he didn't say he saw it coming or met expectations for our talent level. he said it was successful because it was interesting until football starts up, which is stupid. of course this season was going to happen and we'd regress at some point. Moose/Gordon/Cain/Morales/Escobar/Hos have all had either injuries or massive massive slumps or both. our starters didn't get it going until late, and Soria has been a far cry from what we've expected from a setup man. Wade is out. Holland is gone. etc etc etc.

Of course we all saw it coming, of course this is who the team is. That doesn't make it a successful season, when you're following up 2 WS appearances.

let's take a trip back to sunday august 21, 2016. the royals had just finished sweeping detroit and minnesota to suddenly find themselves 64-60. looking ahead to 3 series with Miami, Boston, and the Yankees, all the royals had to do was not F it up with a 3-6 type stretch.
