I tend to agree with you but he's been a very streaky player.  Obviously if he continues this kind of play he's going to get a huge contract, but Trout signed for 6/144 million.  It would be tough for him to turn down 120 million dollars guaranteed right now I would think.

trout wasn't a free agent.  he's getting over 33 (maybe 37-40ish?, it's hard to calculate) per year for those free agent years.  if you want the royals to extend hosmer, i'm pretty sure 35 million/year would get the job done.

It's 24 million per year for the best player ever in the league by a mile. Hoz should entertain 15-20 per.

no, it's not.  because the first three years of those he was already under team control.  it's however much more he'll get paid now than what he would have got in arbitration for those first three years (my guess was 4-7 million/year more) + the 33 million/year he's going to get for the three years when he would have been a free agent.

Okay, BUT he made the choice to take $140 million and a shot at free agency at 29 rather than $60 million and a shot at free agency at 26.  It's really subjective argument, who knows what Hoz is willing to take as he is not even in the same universe as Mike Trout.

except it probably would have more like 30 million and a shot at free agency at 26.  but other than that, yes.

Has an arbitrator seen a player like Mike Trout before?  Really hard to guess what they would rule on but 30 million is extremely on the low end IMO.

you're probably right.  i have no idea what he'd get, but from past experience, i almost always think baseball players will make less than they end up getting.

I have such mixed feelings about Sweeney. Loved his talent and drive, and the assekicking he gave Weaver. Hated his back injuries and association with awful teams.
