Other teams still think it occurs whether it be from the hotel, stands, etc. I know the Jays have a hitter friendly stadium, but the numbers below plus past history raise concerns.
Jays 2015 Home Record: 32-21
Jays 2015 Road Record: 22-31
2015 Stats:
Donaldson .340 BA at Home (1.054 OPS), .240 BA Away (.750 OPS) (this statistic is absolutely ridiculous)
Bautista .259 BA at Home (.972 OPS), .218 BA Away (.773 OPS)
Those are some pretty big differences.
Some comparisons:
Morales .283 BA at Home (.796 OPS), .285 BA Away (.788)
Hosmer .333 BA at Home (.940 OPS), .298 BA Away (.761)
Moose .277 BA at Home (.754 OPS), .288 BA Away (.733)
Cain .306 BA at Home (.864 OPS), .321 BA Away (.882)
Hos has a pretty big difference between Home/Away, but not by 100 points like Donaldson. Most Royals bat better on the road since Kauffman can be more pitcher-friendly.
Other people bring up how Donaldson was a completely different player last year compared to this year in Toronto (29 HRs last year, already 26 this year). He was pretty much a straight-up trade with Lawrie. Also, Batista (who was mentioned in the link PT posted above) was tossed around for the first 5 years of his career until he landed at the Blue Jays and all of a sudden started to hit homeruns. The article references cheating during 2010 and 2011 when Batista hit 54 and 43 HRs. He has 23 so far this year. He, Donaldson, and Morales lead AL in RBIs.
Maybe it is just a coincidence that they are both having career years. They both have the whiny bitch-at-the-plate part down.
