Don't kid yourself into thinking we're better off facing a good pitcher like Kazmir in the playoffs.

Padre's are officially sellers.  Looking to sell Shields, Justin Upton, and possibly Cashner.

If Mengden and Nottingham were all that Houston had to give up for half a season of Kazmir, then I am all in on trading for a rental.

Mengden has struggled in high-A and is already 22, while Nottingham is raking, he is still in Low-A

Bubba is going to be a nice every day outfielder for the Royals here in a couple years. Don't know why you'd want someone to take him off our hands.

A little comparison on the potentially available top end starters.  If I forgot one, let me know, I'll add him.

2015 Stats // 2013-Current (contract remaining)

Price: 3.5 WAR, 2.78 FIP // 14.1 WAR, 2.86 FIP (0.5 Years, $9.9M)
Cueto: 2.7 WAR, 3.16 FIP // 8.0 WAR, 3.34 (0.5 Years, $5M)
Kazmir: 2.2 WAR, 3.09 FIP // 7.9 WAR, 3.34 FIP (0.5 Years $5.5M) -- Astros
Samardizja: 2.2 WAR, 3.60 FIP // 9.3 WAR, 3.54 FIP (0.5 years, $4.5M)

Hamels: 2.3 WAR, 3.37 FIP // 11.0 WAR, 3.21 FIP (3.5 Years ~$85M)
Shields: 0.9 WAR, 4.12 FIP // 8.2 WAR, 3.66 FIP (3.5 Years $70M)

Haren, Leake, Latos

I was just going off the tweet: "Best prospect". Also, how long will we have Escobar for? I mean, we've already got a top 5 SS. If Mondesi makes the transition to 2b, then it makes total sense to keep him on.

Maybe we can trick them and they will think John Lamb is our best prospect.  :crossfingers:

Why wouldn't he be able to play 2nd?

That's what I'm saying, that would make sense. However, Infante is signed on until 2019, so something is going to have to give soon.
