That's what I'm saying, that would make sense. However, Infante is signed on until 2019, so something is going to have to give soon.

Infante signed a 4 year contract.

Omar Infante: http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/kansas-city-royals/

Says his contract ends in 2019. Unless that's an option year, I'm just going off this site.

There will not be a single ace signed this offseason for less than $30 million per year. If it's too much money, the Royals can trade him after this season for prospects.

They got the 4 years/30.25 mill right, but his first year was 2014, making the contract expire in 2017.

You know Salvy will restructure in the offseason. There were lots of rumblings at the beginning of the season how unhappy he was now that he's a proven all star.

Some team is going to get Cueto for two above average prospects. I hope it's the Royals, but if not it's not a big deal. We have a top 6 pitching staff and will be just fine.

Volquez-Young-Duffy is good enough to get us back to the World Series.

good enough to win the World Series tho?  Really need Ventura to figure it out, since he's a proven World Series performer.  Will probably be pretty telling if the Royals get a pitcher at the trade deadline, whether they think Ventura will figure it out yet this year or not.

it's important to keep in mind this is baseball, not football.  amazing teams win 60% of the time, horrible teams win 40% of the time.   two good teams matched up are probably going to split pretty close to 50:50.  when you're talking about one player's impact on altering those odds - it just doesn't change the overall probabilities much.

Our team ERA is only .04 higher than last year's and our offense is much better now, so yes absolutely we can win it all without making a big move.

just because he wants to is no reason to restructure.  if he wants to get paid more, he should concentrate on getting better every year, instead of worse.

Anyone else watching Detroit and Seattle in extras?  After all those years of them being kings of the division, it's fun to watch them make bullpen matchups in the 12th after burning their only legit reliever (Sofia) in the 9th.

I don't really want to give away any of our prospects to rent a player for a half season. I'd rather trade Holland.

it's like, how hard is to find a good reliever - just bring up your hardest throwing minor-league guy or randomly pick a failed starter or chase down some reliever that used to be good and has now retired.

I agree we can, but there's a lot more ifs to worry about.  Can Chris Young keep up what he's doing?  Duffy?  If Medlen and Ventura can come on strong, I love our chances.  btw, i'm team don't trade Mondesi

i'd rest him as much as possible in the regular season to try and keep him effective for the postseason.  there's no question he can pitch well if he's healthy and rested.  just have to keep him that way.

Yes, and when the season is over, the Royals would hold and ace with a bargain basement contract. They would be able to get prospects back for him. That is more palatable to me than giving up prospects to get somebody for half a season and then losing him outright.

he's right though.  if you don't want him long-term, you just flip him, making him a rental for you.

i don't agree that he's an "ace" though.  price is the only legit scary good pitcher that seems like he might be available.  and price has had problems pitching in cold weather.  something to consider if you're looking at october value.
