JGuts pitched well enough for us to win last night, our offense just crapped the bed. I would take 5ip 3r from him every time.
Yeah, and really IP is a key disappointing stat right now from our starters. Fortunately Young and Pino look pretty good (and possibly good options for 4/5 starters at some point if the wheels do fall off).
Innings per start:
Volquey - 7.3
Guts - 6.0
Duffy - 5.4
Ourdano - 5.0
Vargy - 4.7
Again, its early, but that's got to change. All these guys had between 6.0 and 6.3 IPS last year, so they can all do it. Of course for Guts (36) and Vargy (32) age could be catching up as well.
Yeah, that is the bigger issue right now. Its worth mentioning that Ourdano hasn't been pulled from a game this year. He left twice because of cramps and was ejected once.
If a starter gives up 3 ER and goes at least 5.0 Inn, I classify that as an OK start outing (if its 7-8 Inn with 3 ER, then OK+ start)
If a starter gives up 2 ER or less and goes 6 Inn or more, then that I say a good start outing (so 2ER 5 Inn not "good" start just OK)
(FWIW - MLB considers 3ER or less and going at least 6 Inn to be a "quality start")
Allowing 4+ ER or failing to go 5.0 Inn, I consider a bad start outing
So far we have had only 4 good, 1 OK+, and 4 OK starts.... and then 6 bad starts
Last year, here were the good starts in comparison to total starts
Shields 17/34
Vargas 17/30
Ventura 16/30
Duffy 13/24
Guth 14/32
Those 5 guys had=
77 good starts (51.7%)
5 OK+ and 23 OK starts (18.3%)
45 bad starts (30.0%)
