What's the word on kyle Zimmer?  Isn't he supposed to be a huge stud?
That's the guy I was talking about last night. How's he doing?

Recovering from surgery this offseason.  Said during training camp he hoped to pitch full games by May.  He'll be up this year as soon as he gets some games in down there, was performing and rated better than Ventura prior to his few setbacks.

we have literally and actually too many good relievers. we will use more than one in a trade this year

I think we have the right amount. They are the reason our record is so good. Trading them away would be dumb. Maybe we should trade one of them if Hoch looks good when he comes back.

If someone wants to trade for one of the Royals relievers that's fine, but they better be ready to pay a ridiculous amount. There Royals don't need to trade any of them and there's not really anyone they could get for normal reliever value (even closers) that would be an upgrade anywhere.

Yeah, I agree. Everyone on the roster should be available for trade in principle, but you only trade them if you get a hell of a deal.

The Royals are the hope of the sport

http://m.royals.mlb.com/news/article/119879314/royals-respond-to-as-brett-lawries-claim-of-dirty-play

Yeah, and the Royals' responses to Lawrie were great. (Especially stud manager Ned!)

Quote
"I think there's great leadership with [Kendrys] Morales, Sal Perez, Alex Gordon, [Edinson] Volquez, Alex Rios, now [Eric Hosmer] and [Mike Moustakas]," Yost said. "We don't have any leadership problems. None."

Quote
"[Lawrie] knows how a baseball game is played," Rios said. "Even when they hit us, when Lorenzo got hit, they're pretending they don't know. They're playing like they're naïve ... but they knew. We're protecting our players. Baseball has been played that way for a long time. We're not playing bush league baseball," the outfielder said. "We're playing good baseball. There's a reason everything happened. If we get a team that plays us the right way, we're going to play the right way. If a team tries to do certain things to us we're going to protect our players."

Quote
So why did the A's take such exception?

"I think it's our energy and enthusiasm and passion for the game," Yost said. "There's a reason why guys like Morales and Rios and other guys want to come play on this team. A lot of guys want to be in an atmosphere that is fun and exciting. That is what the game is about. I'm not changing any of that."

JGuts pitched well enough for us to win last night, our offense just crapped the bed. I would take 5ip 3r from him every time.

Yeah, and really IP is a key disappointing stat right now from our starters. Fortunately Young and Pino look pretty good (and possibly good options for 4/5 starters at some point if the wheels do fall off).

Innings per start:
Volquey - 7.3
Guts - 6.0
Duffy - 5.4
Ourdano - 5.0
Vargy - 4.7

Again, its early, but that's got to change. All these guys had between 6.0 and 6.3 IPS last year, so they can all do it. Of course for Guts (36) and Vargy (32) age could be catching up as well.
Yeah, that is the bigger issue right now. Its worth mentioning that Ourdano hasn't been pulled from a game this year. He left twice because of cramps and was ejected once.

If a starter gives up 3 ER and goes at least 5.0 Inn, I classify that as an OK start outing (if its 7-8 Inn with 3 ER, then OK+ start)
If a starter gives up 2 ER or less and goes 6 Inn or more, then that I say a good start outing (so 2ER 5 Inn not "good" start just OK)
(FWIW - MLB considers 3ER or less and going at least 6 Inn to be a "quality start")
Allowing 4+ ER or failing to go 5.0 Inn,  I consider a bad start outing

So far we have had only 4 good, 1 OK+, and 4 OK starts.... and then 6 bad starts

Last year, here were the good starts in comparison to total starts
Shields 17/34
Vargas 17/30
Ventura 16/30
Duffy 13/24
Guth 14/32

Those 5 guys had=
77 good starts (51.7%)
5 OK+ and 23 OK starts (18.3%)
45 bad starts (30.0%)

I agree with most of that. I do think that it's fair to hold them to different standards based on their ceilings and spots in the rotation. My expectations for Ventura are different than my expectations for Guthrie.

You can also include the variable of who he's pitching against. When you're facing off vs another team's ace (like Sale tonight) Ventura needs to be especially sharp.

i think this is the game Ventura realizes he has a worthy opponent, sacks up and shows us why he deserved the big contract. this game will be 2 hrs 40 mins, each team will have like 3 hits, and we'll win 2-1, with a sac fly in the 5th being the difference in the game

It'd be great if we got some garbage 1st inning run. Alcedes infield hit, Moose sacrifices to 2nd, Cain little blop single.
