Dayton was on with BITB today. Said they haven't ruled out making Wade Davis a starter again.  :surprised:

These kinds of statements are what prevent me from ever truly embracing Dayton Moore.

I used to think that way. Then we won the pennant. Davis won't be a starter dude.

He said they'd like to get Zimmer up by the All-Star break. If it wasn't for the surgery, he would have been in the 5 man rotation starting at spring training.

Just as I said all season, Ned is clearly one of the top 3 managers in the AL.

according to this article, the royals have $53 million coming off the books this year.  how did they arrive at that number?

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/100471820/storylines-abound-as-free-agent-season-begins

our free agents are:
Norichika Aoki   RF   32   FA   Royals   --      NR   --
Billy Butler           DH   28   FA   Royals   --      NR   --
Scott Downs   RP   38   FA   Royals   --      NR   --
Jason Frasor   RP   37   FA   Royals   --      NR   --
Luke Hochevar   RP   31   FA   Royals   --      NR   --
Raul Ibanez   RF   42   FA   Royals   --      NR   --
James Shields   SP   32   FA   Royals   --      NR   --
Josh Willingham   LF   35   FA   Royals   --      NR   --

i don't think those guys total to $53 mil next year.  billy and james are 8 mil and 7.5 mil

Melky!!!

That's who I want. Could KC nab him for $24 million over 3 years or $16 million over two years?
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

$53 still seems high but Shields was at $13.5 mil this year

Even if we had to pay the entirety of all those guys' contracts, obviously we didn't since many of them were in-season acquisitions, their total salary was about 44 million...not real sure where they came up with 53 million.

Pitching is of less concern imo. I want the Melkman.

This guy should be our DH in 2015 on a one year deal. Former Brave? Check. A real man's man? Check. Has a cattle ranch in Kansas which he uses to donate several thousand pounds of meat to his baseball team? Check. Still has some homerun power? Check.

The thought of a platoon situation at DH with a bunch of little non home run hitting turds makes me extremely angry.

if he's reasonably priced, seems like a reasonable option.  he's a good first baseman though, so presumably a nl team would value him more highly than an al team that already has a first baseman would.  also he wouldn't conform with the goal of using a dh that could provide some position flexibility.
