If we were able to get Melky, would we have a flexible DH?  If so, who would we see rotate into the DH spot?  Colon and Dyson?  Or could we attempt to restructure Billy's contract or sign a guy like Morse?

I think a Scherzer/Ventura/Duffy/Guthrie/Vargas rotation with FHDH in the pen would make us one of the favorites for the WS.

We would win over 100 games with that rotation.

Then sign Melky and Victor Martinez and we'll win 150 games or so probably.

I would like to see a rotation at DH, with Colon batting there when nobody needs a day off.

No, I want a big time home run smasher at DH.  We won't make the playoffs again with the fewest HR's in the league.

I like _33's idea, but big smashers don't like signing with teams that have huge ball parks. It's bad for business.  :frown: Pitchers tho!

There are only like 4 or 5 HR hitters in the league anymore. Pitchers' era.

Scherzer and Lester are looking for their last big contract, so it really doesn't make a difference what type of ballpark they throw in. They are going to cost a boatload, but if Glass even cares one bit about winning a championship, we will pick one of them up. You shouldn't expect a championship unless you have the best roster in baseball. Scherzer in this rotation, with this bullpen, at Kaufmann Stadium, would give the Royals that roster.

There is no reason the Royals shouldn't increase the payroll to the $100 million range.

Well yeah, I imagine they will. But Scherzer would put us in the like 120 million range and it ain't happening.

I have only been looking at the 2014 payroll. Who is due for a big salary bump in 2015? The money from Shield's and Butler's salaries would be enough to pay Scherzer, at least in 2015. I'm not sure how everyone's contract is structured moving forward, though.

Glass has accomplished everything he wanted to

I think he enjoyed last year, and is eager to keep the party going. I'm fearful that Dayton will spend Glass' money poorly, and that Mr. Glass will be hesitant to spend $100+ million in the future.

Hoz, Moose, Holland, Herrera, Duffy, Cain, and Dyson are all arbitration eligible.

I doubt it does when you subtract the money from players who are leaving.

Dayton was on with BITB today. Said they haven't ruled out making Wade Davis a starter again.  :surprised:

These kinds of statements are what prevent me from ever truly embracing Dayton Moore.

Even if the royals were willing to pay for scherzer, I wouldn't want him.  The money could be better spent elsewhere.  Scherzer isn't that great.
