Fellas, its an L tonight. We're just going up there swinging. We should've had 10 runs with these pitchers the Sox trotted out there. Mariners are winning and are gonna gain a game. This and Sunday will go down as epic losses. I said yesterday, the bullpen can't blow one, and they did. They absolutely did. The WC will go down to the final game of the season.

I usually like Josh's plate discipline, but that pitch was too close to take on 3-2. Gotta protect there.

So. This will be the first time the Royals have ever used 9 pitchers in a 9-inning game (assuming it ends after 9)? Incredible.

Checked swing ground out to the mound. Fitting way for this one to end.   :flush:

Whoever told Salvy to start pulling for power needs to be punched in the face.

He's become absolutely obsessed with pulling every pitch regardless of the situation. No end to it in sight.

Seattle up by 9 after 8. A's lost. Seattle will be 1 behind in the WC going into Wednesday.

I really tried to avoid watching the WC standings until tonight. Now I have no choice.

Seattle is now 1 behind. Seattle, damnit. Not even a real baseball city.

OK. I'll say it. Ned was out of his own box tonight, bringing in pitchers earlier than he normally would have. Herrera. Davis. They appeared in situations they don't normally face--runners on base. Usually, they come in with the bases clean and they clean up.

Guys, I don't think Ned is a good manager and never have. But tonight, I'm not sure what he should have done differently with his pitchers for this game only. I think that may be the first game I've ever said that.

I still have hope for my Royals. But I still hope, all things, considered, that Ned is not our manager next year.

Well anyone who was blogging in game knows there were 3 big moves he could've done.

1. As J-Dub pointed out, don't even send Hendriks out for the 4th. He had no control, and was bound to have runners all over the place.
2. As Kim Carnes pointed out, Finnegan was cruising, and could've finished the 6th, even pitched the 7th.
3. As I said, leave Herrera in. No one was hitting him hard, and going to Davis there was a panic move. Davis reflected that and came in wild with a walk to start his time on the hill. Herrera has shown he can get outs with runners on. Give him that chance, since he's been nails. Davis clean 8th, Holland 9th, we go home smiling.

The problem with Ned, is that the philosophies he has are old baseball wive's tales, but then we he deviates, its based on gut and feel rather than analysis. Any one of those moves, and we probably win.

I would also like to add that we should have scored more runs vs that shitty pitching staff that the White Sox threw out there.  :th_twocents:

I get that and those are good points, but even if there were mistakes I appreciated that Ned managed with a sense of urgency last night. You can call it panic, but he was doing all he could to win that game. I wish he had done that Sunday.

I know it was called a hit, but a big play was the near error by Finnegan in the 5th. Regardless of whose fault it was, if we get that out, Herrera probably doesn't have to come in that inning. Also, Herrera clearly didn't have his best stuff last night and made several mistakes on his own that didn't help his situation. I think this influenced Ned going to Davis as well.

Yes we should've had 9 on the board. I don't care about the slump, when you have Aoki/Dyson in the lineup together without Butler, its tough to get big innings. Aoki has had 2 4 hit games in a row, and we didn't have big nights. Guys who can hit homeruns and doubles, albeit slumping, need to play.
