Guys, let's make a list of aging, yet still productive, bats on crappy teams. .800 OPS types are the minimum.
I'll start with a couple: slash stats are for the first half of this season.
Mike Napoli (1B) Boston - .266/ .389/ .461, .820 OPS - Napoli is 32, his contract runs through next season. Scheduled to make $16 mill next season. He's been pretty consistent along those slash lines and has given teams around 25 HR a year for the last few. Doesn't help the OF situation, but a good bat and avail for 1B and DH.
Adam Dunn (1B) Chi Sox - .224/ .361/ .437 - Dunn is 34, and in the final year of his contract. He's Making $15 million this season. As we all know Dunn is the anti-Royal. He walks a ton, hits the ball hard (14 HR this season), and strikes out a lot. He's also better at 1B than people give him credit for. This would be a true rental, but there may be a chance to retain depending on his price tag and the Royals chances for future success. The White Sox aren't that bad, but Dunn really wouldn't be in a long-term option.
Justin Morneau (1B) Rockies - .214/ .345/ .512 - Morneau is 33 and is having a resurgent year, though he's risky as a lot of it prob has to do with being in Colorado. He's also signed through 2016, but with a cheaper price tag of $6.75 million (2015), $9 million (2016, mutual option) Morneau has 13 HR at the break, and has always been able to walk a decent amount. It's hard for me to believe though, that he could translate his Coors Field success to the K.
Obviously there are others, and a guy who could play OF might be a better option.
