Sys.  My fantasy baseball league has pretty much confirmed that carrying a bunch of relievers is more effective than paying/trusting starters.  The only problem is roster sizes.  Having enough guys with option years and keeping enough space on the 40 man roster would make it difficult to pull off well.  I think having a stars and scrubs approach would be preferable though.  Put 2/3rds of your pitching budget toward two studs and then have them pitch on three or four days rest and have them go 4-5 innings and have a rotating bullpen cover the rest of the innings and days.  You would just need so many arms to do it and you would need to constantly replenish your farm system because other teams would snatch up guys in the rule 5 draft that you showed can pitch.

The more pitchers you use per game, the more likely it is that you're going to have one that isn't "on" that day. Another reason that the "one inning closer" is a rough ridin' stupid, antiquated notion.

how can they be so bad at foundational things

They value the wrong things as foundational, things like stolen bases and hitting to the opposite field. I guess they do value strikeouts out of the bullpen as important, so there's that.

yeah but like... this is simple balls and strikes here ya know. swing at one, not at the other.. i mean, like, we learn this in coach pitch.. i just...

The Royals are 12-0 when scoring at least four runs compared to 0-12 when they don't.

i think they might be right around the same record as last year, which means we have a super fun summer + september ahead of us  :emawkid:

When did they go on that awful skid last year?   I can't remember.

Two horrible lines by Aoki and a pass ball leads to giving up the lead in the 5th.

Swollen disk sidelines Royals’ oscar Chen for one start, possibly two

The Royals should put Chen on the 15 day DL & miss 3 starts & let Duffy start in place of Chen. If Duffy pitches like he did last year the spot in the rotation is his & Chen is back in the pen.

It's not moving Shields & Vargas apart, Yost wants to move Vargas & Chen apart in the rotation since they are back to back. Yost views Vargas & Chen as similar pitchers (lefties who are placement pitchers & throw mid 80's & they can top out around 90 mph) & he doesn't want teams getting back to back looks at lefty control pitchers.

Chen is going to miss his start today & try to start Saturday (if he can go). If Chen does start on Saturday then the rotation will be Shields, Chen, Vargas, Ventura, & Guthrie. Chen & Vargas would still be together in the rotation.
