I'd rather we use the money it would take to pay Salvy to add players and keep winning instead.
In a perfect world, yeah, but no one wants to play for a team that doesn't appear to do right by their players. It's a great idea if you are a GM in MLB: The Show.
If the Salvy contract situation blows up it will get really ugly for us, especially given the perception (reality?) that we are running him into the ground at an unprecedented rate.
I'm not saying give the guy $20M a year, but he needs more than $2 in 2016. The least we could do is guarantee his team options through 2019 (3.8, 5, and 6M) so that an injury doesn't leave him out in the cold. I'd like to see us double his contract for the duration, and guarantee the option years.
