Looking at some of the contracts, it's going to be really hard for the Royals to stay competitive after 2017.

yeah.  it's impossible.  they have two more years, best case.  or one year and trade everyone midway through 2017 to try and rebuild faster.

Salvador Perez   Catcher   2015: $1.75 million, 2016: $2 million, 2017: $3.75 million club option, 2018: $5 million club option, 2019: $6 million club option

3.8 million for 2016.  he triggered bonus clauses this year that bump his salary.

So, one more run in 2016, Yost retires, and in 2017, the fire sale happens?

from a statistical perspective, what catcher would be considered a peer of Sal and how much does that man make?

Buster Posey   Catcher   2015: $16.5 million, 2016: $20 million, 2017: $21.4 million, 2018: $21.4 million, 2019: $21.4 million, 2020: $21.4 million, 2021: $21.4 million, 2022: $22 million club option ($3 million buyout)

Yadier Molina   Catcher   2015: $15 million, 2016: $14 million, 2017: $14 million, 2018: $15 million club option ($2 million buyout)

Brian McCann   Catcher   2015: $17 million, 2016: $17 million, 2017: $17 million, 2018: $17 million, 2019: $15 million club option

ESPN did a top 10 catchers in 2014, here are the 3 guys ahead of Salvy

Salvador Perez   Catcher   2015: $1.75 million, 2016: $2 million, 2017: $3.75 million club option, 2018: $5 million club option, 2019: $6 million club option

just did some quick Alta-vista searching on www with my cellular mobile phone, those players you compared to SP aren't very good comparos

I would agree

it's an option.  but i have a hard time imagining they'll sell everyone if they're in a position to compete.  i'd guess firesale only if 2016 is disappointing.

they could still qo everyone after 2 years, so they wouldn't be left with nothing.

Their tv contract expires in 2019, so the franchise has a huge incentive to compete at least until then. I'm just not sure how they can do it.

it took us 30 years of #1 draft picks to climb this mountain, there's no reason to believe that we can't do it again

SK, everyone for the history of time that's a a Royals fan loves Gordo, we saw him go from bust to the best, but team always wins over being a black shirt like yourself. He might not be affordable.

Alex and Ben clearly would like to return. More money may influence Ben more than Alex, although that's a we shall see thing.

Looks like Rios is gone unless he's willing to negotiate down. A loss of Rios doesn't particularly bother me if we're willing to give Jarrod a chance in right everyday, or let him and Orlando share that role. That said, throwing money at the RF for a full-time RF position is wasted money. Save that $ for starting pitching.
