@UD and/or Sys- I get that it's a running joke that Baylor offers everyone worth a crap but how do you guys think that effects their recruiting? Seems like some players would shy away from that behavior, yet Scotty seems to land some very nice players. Will it eventually catch up, or is that a common tactic? I guess I'm just curious what downside there is to just offering the eff out of players. We seem to offer few players and don't land the players Baylor does.TIA.
i guess one downside could be spreading your recruiting attention too thin, and losing a recruit you want because he feels neglected. with a hard working staff, probably not a big problem.
the real downside is the occasional awkward conversation when someone who thinks they had a real offer tries to commit and finds out they can't. for a psychopath coach, that's not an issue.
Well one of the pretty obvious downsides to making so many offers is risking the scenario in which 3 or 4 guys say yes early on, and you're stuck with those guys if another guy that's better wants in later and you're out of schollies.
It definitely seems to be working, though, at least until BU gets busted. By now we've got to come to terms with the fact that players apparently want to play in Waco($), but all those offers creates competition and encourages recruits to commit ASAP in order to avoid ending up being left out. Also keeps Baylor almost constantly in the recruiting headlines.
