I usually only use A1 on my steaks but last weekend went to Capital Grille and the waiter brought my steak to the table (after a 45 minute wait) and it was still pink in the middle.  Disgusting.  I sent it back and requested that he finish cooking my meal.  I also instructed the waiter that I would be eating my steak with BBQ sauce.  He said they didn't have any.  I said, I DID.  I'd been to the Kansas City Store on the Plaza earlier shopping an picked up a bottle of Okie Joes to send to my cousin in NYC.

Well, cousin didn't get the BBQ sauce since I used it on my meal but I DID get a heck of a good peice of meat (after they finished cooking it).

I can definitely tell a difference between charcoal and gas grilled food.  I prefer charcoal, but gas is much simpler, obviously.
Doubt you can. Just an "fyi".

There is a huge difference in taste between charcoal and gas grills. The only reason that somebody might fail a blind test is if they actually prefer the food off the gas grill and just expect the charcoal to taste better, or vice versa.

that makes no sense at all.

Charcoal grills give a distinct flavor to food. The only reason somebody would prefer a gas grill is if they don't like that flavor. What doesn't make sense about that?

Boy, good thing for you guys I found this, seems a lot of LGIQ going on here.   Get an electric, fill it up with lava rock even with the elect. element, toss on a couple of small pieces of whatever wood you like and slap some meat on.  Replace lava every now and again but not too often as the trapped juices really add flavor.  Get a smoker for everything that requires a slow cook.  Frackin gas or coal, pffffttt.

Relying on past, possibly bad, grilling endeavors to add to the flavor of your current grilling fare is bad grilling etiquette.

Yeah but he attacked it like he really wanted it and I appreciate his effort.  Electric + lava rocks + trapped juices + small pieces of wood you like = grilling paradise.

YES      'nother hint, better to get a unit (see home depot's $189 model) that has good distance between the electric element and the grilling surface.   Also, will make the best BEST seafood you've ever had from a grill.

Don't really want a large distance between the heat and the grill surface.  If you really feel like you need that just buy one that has a movable grill, like one that has a little hand crank on the side.  The entire point of a grill is high heat.

That's one of the major advantages of electric, turn that dial up to whatever temp you want, no guess work here just optimum controlled heat.  Also, and I guess I'll go ahead and throw this one in for free too, you want the distance between element and grill surface for the tray of apple juice or whatever flavor/moisture adding liquid you prefer!  I think you are underestimating the magic it does with seafood btw, was expecting at least some recognition or rebuttal here.

I can tell there are a lot of doubters, that's okay, I know the truf of superior grilling.   Have I mentioned how unbelievably well it sears?

Half the point of grilling is to reaffirm Man's dominance and mastery of fire.  Sure i own a cooking device that uses an electric heating element, it's called a stove.
