In a straight up gas vs. charcoal challenge I bet most posters wouldn't be able to tell a taste difference.
I've got both, propane during the week. charcoal on the weekends.

I can definitely tell a difference between charcoal and gas grilled food. I prefer charcoal, but gas is much simpler, obviously.

The only reason that somebody might fail a blind test is if they actually prefer the food off the gas grill and just expect the charcoal to taste better, or vice versa.
