 CBS had Broncos-Chiefs protected but gave it up voluntarily so national audience could see game. They did not have national window that day.

I am surprised CBS did that, Its not like they got a Pats or Jets game back from NBC since the originally scheduled game for that night was Packer - Giants.

It makes a big difference that they did not have a national window. They also would've gone head to head with SF-NO at 3:25.

I'm aware of the situation, irl friend mocat. But CBS would have still made millions of dollars playing it at the allotted time slot. And now people are saying CBS was just like, "Hey competitor NBC, we were only going to make a few million dollars off of this game, but we see you could make tens of millions of dollars off of it. Would you like to take it off of our hands for us?"

NBC had a lot more to gain than CBS had to loss in this situation. CBS wouldn't have made nearly the amount of money with this game than what NBC will. KC and Denver aren't exactly NYC and LA when it comes to market size...

Well then why are they saying it's for nothing? Obviously they would have signed something if that's the case, saying they would give up a certain game or a game that meets certain criteria. I guess they could go ahead and trust their competitor when they say "no sure, we'll give you a game later if you give us this one for free."
