Guess I didnt realize that Cassell called his own plays.  My mistake.  And I forgot to note just how much preseason games reflect a players ability.  Just ask Thomas Clayton.  Dude lead the league in preseason rushing and he's continued tht pretty well.

he has sucked for years in the regular season. he has always had a weak arm and has not stretched the field. he is reaffirming years of damning evidence from the regular season in this preseason.

thus - it effing matters.

stupidity isn't charming. neither are terrified checkdowns game after game after game.

the quick/short passing game in new england with welker/hernandez works because brady will throw it over your head on the sidelines and up the seam if you cheat up. cassell won't.

thus, cap'n checkdown will ensure that the defenses cheat up and stop the short passes for minimal gains and clog the running lanes.

it has happened. it will continue to happen.

he made the pro bowl 2 years ago. let's not be Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!)

you're awful

no, denied. you cannot say with a straight face that "cassell has sucked for years in the regular season" because it's rough ridin' not true at all.

unless you think this sucks:

262/450   58.2%   3,116 yds    27 TD   7 INT   93.0 QBR

in which case, you're awful

He was 19th in yards, 24th in yards per game, 19th in yards per attempt.  His TD/INT rate was phenomenal, one he'll never duplicate and one that was more the product of opportunity than actual talent.

It was an average year with a fluky TD/INT rate.

mocat, you're awful.  So is Cassell.

Once again, lets play "Who is worse off than the Chiefs at Quarterback?"

1. Arizona
2. Jacksonville

Jets off the list, Browns NOT on the list.  Weeden has more upside than Cassell.  By week 8 Browns might make the list, but not today

Weeden is 1 year younger than Cassel and is still a rookie.  By the time we'd know if Weeden is going to be productive or not, he'll be retired.

Well, I know NOW that Cassel sucks.  Just because guys don't usually come into the league at Weeden's age doesn't mean he can't be productive.  I'm not saying the kid is going to be Marino, I'm saying I'd take him over Matt Cassel.

Rookies can't be on the list, we don't know if they're awful yet like we know Cassel is.  Carson Palmer, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Sanchez have all proved to be better than Cassel.  Ponder?  I'm inclined to think I'd rather have him, but I'd listen to the argument.  Same for Locker.

And its not about 2012 only ben ji, its about the future too.  We'll be right back here next year after we go 7-9, and draft somewhere in the middle, and STILL don't have a franchise QB.

There's your list.
And 4/5 are in their 1st or 2nd year.  Kolb and Cassel are about the same player, so yeah, you wouldn't pick him over Cassel.

I'm not a cassel lover, i just think all the cassel haters are going a little overboard. Cassel is much better than Kolb...Kolb cant even beat out some skelton? guy for the starting job.

Cassel is the embodiment of the chefs for the past 20 years. Good but not great, serviceable and able to generate modest success when the opportunity is right.

Chefs will go 10-6, charles and hillis will carry the offense with just enough cassel and bowe mixed in to keep the defense from putting 9 in the box...Then they will promptly lose in the first round.

according to espn's Total QBR (which is a much better rubric than the traditional QBR), Cassel has finished 28th, 15th, and 18th the past 3 years.

Profootballfocus has done a lot of 3 year studies this offseason, among them you will find deep passing stats, Cassel doesn't crack the top ten by any measure (deep attempts, deep accuracy, deep td's) while such luminaries as Tim Tebow, Vince Young, Matt Moore, oscar Gradkowski, Derek Anderson, Mark Sanchez, David Garrard and Andy Dalton all make appearances.

FootballOutsiders graded Cassel as below-replacement level 2 of his 3 years as a chief as well.

in his banner year as a Chief he completed 58%(dreadful) of his passes, threw for 3100 yds(laughable) and averaged 6.9 ypa(decidedly atrocious, but his best as a chief by half a yard).

as a chief, he has never completed 60% of his passes or averaged 7 ypa.

I don't think Cassel's YPA would be so bad if he wasn't so bad at completing those short passes, fwiw. Arguments about who is worse than who are beyond pointless, though. No GM should think that any of these bozos being argued about should be anything more than a backup.

THIS

how can this not enrage you/the entire chiefs fanbase. especially when (as C43 already noted) it will leave the chiefs with a mid-1st round pick, which will be used on an underachieving d-lineman with "potential" and most importantly NO QUARTERBACK.

rinse repeat.

it's too much. it's just too much.

Good not great. And I was saying hitting was not the problem for the Royals btw.

I have never seen a bunch of retards jerk themselves off about how "awful" a mediocre player is. I mean even for goEMAW this is pretty stupid. Calling Matt Cassel "awful" is rough ridin' ignorant. Awful qbs do not make the pro bowl, even as a 4th alternate or whatever. If he has another season north of 90 QB rating, what will you say then?

He's in the same category (bottom half of the NFL) but I like Fitzpatrick more.  He has more yards and a better completion percentage for starters
