What did they offer him? I'm pretty sure they had more cap room than any other team and could have picked him up if they really wanted him.

Manning was still butt hurt over the beatings he took from the Pats over the years and wanted nothing to do with Pioli

They didn't offer him anything.  Because he said he wasn't interested.

Yes, so if I own the Chiefs, I call him and ask why he isn't interested. If he says he can't work with Pioli, I fire Pioli. Problem solved.

What nobody understands is he did all his rehab in Colorado over the last year. I'm pretty sure he started to enjoy it there in Denver. Is it crazy to think he was only interested to play somewhere that he would enjoy to live/ be able to compete with?

Yes, it's crazy because he would enjoy life even more with the extra millions KC should have offered him. This "wouldn't take our calls" talking point is bullshit, and I'm sure the Chiefs organization appreciates their fans actually buying it.

LOL at you thinking a guy whose already worth over 150+ Million dollars, gives a crap about a couple million more. He wanted the mountains or the beach, with a potential competitor.

The Chiefs have a better supporting cast than the Broncos, and LOL at thinking NFL players care about playing in football stadiums near the mountains or the beach. He has enough money to buy vacation homes wherever he wants them.

Just how many extra millions do you think we were capable of offering?  Our cap figures are virtually equal to the Broncos after they signed Manning.  Also we don't have a top 5 QB of all time in our front office to bounce ideas off of.

The Broncos made room by trading Tebow, just as the Chiefs would have created extra room by trading Cassel.

There's so many factors why we never stood a chance. BTW, lol at the bleacher report article, I never opened it. Maybe you should focus on my beginning argument, he rehabbed in Denver over the last year, getting close with Elway. Also, he's not a normal NFL player, he's a guy with about 3 years left. I'm sure a luxurious environment wouldn't hurt convincing him.

Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) stances like "an NFL player won't talk to this team because he wants to play near the beach or a mountain" deserve bleacher report rebuttals. Players consider 3 things: 1. Money 2. Championship potential 3. Media market.

The Chiefs were in a position to be superior to the Broncos both in the money offered and championship potential. Denver beats KC as a media market, but it's not exactly New York, either. I could move to New Mexico with $150 million and make that a pretty god damned luxurious environment.

The Chiefs didn't get Manning because they didn't want to overpay. If they had offered Peyton $10 million more per year than the Broncos, he would be a Chief.

I don't think we could have beaten Denver's money offer, I think we could have matched it.  As far as championship potential, the fact that the Chiefs have been a pretty miserable failure of an organization for most of Manning's career has to factor in somewhere.  I agree that we have more high-talent players, but last year showed us the criminal lack of depth the Chiefs have.  Our depth would in no way improve with Manning providing a 20-25MM cap hit.

NK, if you don't think they called, they called. Manning didn't want us though. You're probably one of those K-State fans that think we should be reeling in 4 and 5 star recruits from out of state every year. JFC. You're so damn defensive when you're wrong. T's rough ridin' P's, brother.

If the Chiefs would have released Cassel when they signed Manning, they could have paid him $30 million per season and taken less than a $20 million cap hit.

This is not college football. You don't have to recruit players. I know the Chiefs called Manning. Neither you nor I have any idea what conversation took place, but I'm sure Pioli made a laughable offer that Manning decided wasn't even worth his time to negotiate from. That is much more realistic than believing that Manning said "Sorry Clark. I just like skiing way too much to ever consider Kansas City."
