He probably wants to become Mahomes backup and learn a few more things.

He could get a 4 year deal with the Chiefs and let Mahomes fill up his second hand.

That would make it hard for Mahomes to catch up with him.  Amazing strategy.

God damn watching this Chiefs vs Rams 2018 game in LA we had so many rough ridin' chances to win and just blew it. I mean it’s fine because we are rough ridin' champs but we had this game.

So is Mahomes going to play on his last year of his rookie contract?  That seems pretty foolish.  It is great for KC, though.

He gets a bigger contract if he waits until after the new TV contracts are done.

And he wants to win.

I’ll bet only Aaron Rogers is making more off of endorsements than he currently is.

I think the strategy might have differed with the SB.  When they won it, the plan became to run it back as much as possible and put it off for a year.  Otherwise, I think they would be more likely to lock Pat up early and spread the additional money into this year as they would want to make sure they can keep trying as long as possible.

As long as PM is ok with it, we can pay him whatever and whenever he wants.

His contract next season vs his contract this season would be different by like 1-2m/yr.  And if he breaks his leg in half this season, it will be different by about 30m/yr.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reports Patrick Mahomes "isn’t going to do a deal early just because the Chiefs want to."

Kansas City obviously wants to extend Mahomes for the long-term, but there are non-football factors playing into the exact timing of that extension. The Super Bowl MVP is reportedly waiting for the new CBA to be implemented and could be waiting until after the NFL signs their new television deals, too. Mahomes will be the highest-paid player in league's history regardless of when a deal is reached, but it sounds like he's going to be strategically patient with the salary cap expected to climb.

I'm fairly confident that a patty touchdowns broken leg foundation could find 1 million people to donate $30

I mean, financially it would be a dumb decision to make 30-40 million less in order to possibly make an extra 10m.  But for the Chiefs it is a great deal since they get the MVP for pennies.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but NFL Game Pass is free through the end of May.  Currently watching HOU vs KC divisional round.

My favorite signing this offseason!

I don't love him but I agree with you.  We need some corners.  He raises the floor on that position next year.

Our starting corners are between serviceable and good, and we are paying them $5.5M total next year.  That is a complete steal.  Very happy to resign Breeland, defenses are better when players have been playing together longer.

Chiefs are returning 20/22 starters for 2020/2021 season after the Breeland deal.  That is pretty impressive.  I'm excited about what year 2 will do to a returning defense under Spag's leadership.  Could the Chiefs be running out on the field a top 10 defense and a top 3 offense?  It's not only possible, but plausible.
