they should own their pick, and not set mahomes up to be thrown under the bus if it doesn't work out

Dude, the Chiefs are reigning World Champs. What are you tripping about?

it's in the post you quoted. but now that i'm thinking more about it, how does [robbed super bowl liv mvp] damien williams feel about his qb publicly wanting him to be replaced?

To me, the question is, "Does this move make the Chiefs better?" And I think the answer is, "Yes."

He's a back up playing as a cheap starter. these are professionals, they know the game.

He is on the last year of his contract.  He knows he won't be in KC next year.  Plus, he needs help in the backfield.

lmao, any player selected in the first round (save QB) would make the chiefs better. there is absolutely no value in drafting a rb in the 1st

Chiefs "struggled" on offense throughout much of the season due to not establishing a run threat.  That was in part due to RB injuries, OL injuries, and lack of RB depth.  Drafting a RB in the 1st round is usually pretty stupid....except when you have shitty RB depth.  Williams is on the last year of his contract, and he was injured throughout the season.

New guy is shifty and small.  Hopefully KC's style of play can keep he and Williams healthy.  Also I don't think the Chiefs know what they have in Darwin Thompson, yet.  I'm not upset about the pick...especially with the key defensive players they wanted were scooped up earlier.

Veach has earned my trust. I don’t think I can question him right now. He single handily got Mahomes and a Super Bowl. Whatever he wants, I’m good with.

When you're picking last in the first round, it's not necessarily a bad thing to get "your guy" at RB. All the stud O and D linemen have largely been picked over, and RB is a position of need. Sometimes the best defense is a good offense.

Plus, you get a 5th year option with the first rounder.

Having a dude like this for Mahomes to throw screens to is the weapon we didn't have last year.  I hear Clyde is close with Sproles and says Sproles has been a role model to him as a back.

Pretty good interview.  Around 9:30 he mentions his Sproles relationship.

I'm sold.

Plus, you get a 5th year option with the first rounder.

Good point, AND since we picked him outside of the top 10 his option is vastly less expensive than it would be to franchise him or sign him to a new deal when that time comes....AND, low risk when we have to guarantee it. For example, in the article below in 2018 the difference at RB between the 5th year option for a top 10 pick vs non-top 10 pick was the most favorable (percentage wise) of any position.  $5.3M vs $9.1M.

Quote
With players selected outside of the top 10 (picks 11-32), the fifth-year salary is the average of the third through 25th highest salaries at a player's position.

I mean, BECAUSE RB's drop off a cliff, it makes a ton of sense to take your favorite one late in the first round.  That 5th year is basically free compared to the preposterous asking prices of the top guy's second contracts relative to their value and the ability to grab a substitute in the draft.  Veetch is a clever rough rider.

They didn't play a QB they took in the top 10 after trading an additional first.  I think they're pretty comfortable not changing their offense for a RB they took as the last pick in the first.

This is a pretty bad example, as it's pretty commonplace to have a QB sit for a year before starting, and I've never heard of that take for a running back.

Willie Gay was an incredible pick, addresses our biggest need, is an incredible athlete and cover LB.  As long as we keep him from fighting Pat, I think he’ll be a star for us.
