I don't blame you for feeling that way. I thought this was a draft where you could get a capable QB in the 1st or 2nd. I just trust the GM/Coach enough to where if they didn't like a QB there, I'm ok with it.

It's a team statistic. We've seen countless shitty QBs on good teams that win a lot. It means nothing.

The NFL talks about wins all the time when it comes to quarterback play. I think you're the one having a hard time grasping this. "Man, I guess i'd rather have Jemarcus russel/Josh freeman as my qb, cause they have a high ceiling and the tools to be great."

If I'm reading it right, Smith has a base of $7.5M with a 500k bonus structure.

Offer him a base of $9 with an incentive to make $1M a year based on tangible success (TD's, Yards, Wins, Playoffs, etc.). That should be ten against the cap, which is two million more than what he costs today.

That's really the going rate for even a middling QB, which is what Smith is.

Four year extension with a one year option. That puts him at 34 at the end of his deal, and if he's still in decent shape, you can keep him until 35.

In the meantime, keep taking shots at mid-to-late round QB picks and hope you catch lightning in a bottle.

I don't care for Alex Smith, but there are a lot worse out there.

He is definitely worth keeping at mid to low teens per yr. especially if we don't sign him for too long. I would even be fine giving him more, but back loading a deal that lets us dump him after three without hitting the big number years.

According to Kendal Gammon today on 810, Bray isn't anywhere close to unseating Chase as our No.2 and who wants Chase as our No1? So, if not Chase, who is better than Smith, available, and worth the money that the Dalton contract will create for them? If we don't want to pay smith something close to the Dalton money and we get someone better than Smith, you can be sure that that QB will demand Dalton money.
