he was a chief. his peak years were in kc. he was an average player in denver.

You were a Denver fan back then, right? As a Denver fan then, and now, I consider him a Bronco. I don't know. I really don't know how to compare his time with both ball teams. I think he was more important to the Chiefs' defense than he was Denver's. Is that how one should make their choice?

yeah. quick backstory: j-dub's mom decorated little j-dub's room in blue and orange without considering the possibility that it could backfire. the first nfl game i ever saw/remember seeing was in oct. of '88, broncos vs. 9er's. broncos were blue and orange  9er's were woof. so little j-dub rooted for his favorite colors. he started looking for his favorite colors every week and pretty soon he recognized that john elway is the greatest football player the world has ever seen. so from that point on, i was a diehard elway/bronco (but really elway, as i would discover in the wake of his retirement) fan in the midst of chiefs fans as far as the eye could see.

so i grew up hating neil smith. absolutely hating his stupid ugly bandaid on his nose wearing home run swing swinging dorky dorkstore spindly girl legged sack machine. and i was beyond psyched when he came to denver. beyond. psyched.

and he was as meh as it gets. he wasn't the same player, or maybe it was because he didn't have derrick on the other side. although, alfred williams had a hell of a couple years when neil was in denver.. so, i think neil had just peaked in kc and was clearly on the downside of his career.

either way. he was a chief. the band aid. the swing. derrick and him being bff. when i think of neil, i think of him sacking john elway. not hugging him as john walked off the field victorious for the very last time

I think I'm too young to remember him has a Chief. My first memories of football are the 97 and 98 seasons. I remember how much it pissed my dad off that I loved the Broncos, but they were so fun to watch for a kid that didn't understand the game yet.

That's why I was asking for your guys' opinions. I don't remember him as a Chief. I just remember him as a Bronco. To be fair, J-Dub I think you are underselling him in Denver. That defense was good, but the stars were the linebackers and the secondary, not the d line.

the defense was okay. one of the weaker super bowl winning defenses in the 90's. they were really susceptible to getting lit up through the air. the offense was special and was the reason those teams won super bowls.

@J-Dub: Marcus Allen: Chief or Raider. It cannot be both.
It's not j-dub's decision, it's marcus's.

I did love how he hated the Raiders. Was so Chiefseo/Cameroheady.

Every player on those teams was complete dog crap besides Elway. Most of the others wouldn't have last 2 days in Conference USA without John.

raider.

i don't care if he may have made an emotionally loaded statement back in the day because of al davis and their past drama. he was a raider.

super bowl mvp and league mvp as a raider. just shy of 13,000 total yards and 97 touchdowns as a raider. it's not close. he's a raider.

It's just an interesting case. Players move teams a lot, but Neil is probably the only player to play the majority of his career in one place and then win back to back super bowls with another. I'm pretty sure he lives in the KC area, so I'm sure he considers himself a Chief. However, I think he would have to consider the back to back Superbowls the highlight of his career. What a weird predicament.

You can't pick journeyman that's cheating

I guess Seattle then. I don't think anyone else he played for would be in any rush to claim him.

He does live here.  He golfs every day and has a loaded gun in every room of his house.  Also I'm pretty sure his son is an aspiring rapper.

Jamaal Charles is one of the few sports figures that I have never understood why everyone love him so much. I'm not trolling. Every chiefs fan drools over him, and I think he's a very nice player.
