I think I'm even angrier today.

I am angry about our bad luck, to have the first pick in a year this down at QB.  However, I am OK with the trade.  They had to do SOMETHING, and this is something.

Now, I say they trade down and still take a QB with their first or a newly acquired second.

Well that would be ideal but it wont happen. They traded a 2nd (maybe 2) to be the guy for at least the next 2-3 years, probably longer after he signs an extension. He won't be toutering anyone. So it takes us out of the running for a QB this year and likely the next 2 years. I don't care about the picks they gave up, althought it was way too much, I hate that they picked this bozo to be the franchise QB for the next several years, just delaying the inevitable. This organization is terrifed to take a risk.

In my opinion, giving up a (possibly two) 2nd round picks for Alex Smith is a risk.  They're basically saying that for the next 2 years, Alex Smith will be better or as good as any of the QB's in the draft.  The backlash from the fans if Geno Smith turns into an All-Pro will be unreal, and it will all be justifiable.

This move to get Smith is ridiculously stupid. So bad.  If I was a Chiefs fan I would be pissed.  The organization just basically told the public "we want to be pretty good.  We would rather be pretty good than have an opportunity to be great.  We don't want to bear the risk that trying to be great might bring with it."

I started reading this, got distracted, then went back and read just the 2nd half of this post.  I forgot what board I was on and thought is was about the Weber hire.
I got a guy on the other line about some white walls

Not just Geno, there are several QB's that could be better in time than Alex Smith. Next year there will be an even better crop of QB's (Bridgewater, Murray, McCarron, Boyd, Manziel) that they won't take. If I'm wrong and they take a guy in the 1st or 2nd round in the next 2 years then I will gladly change my tune and praise the move, I just don't see it happening.

If you think this is a good deal for the Chiefs, then I guess a Super Bowl isn't your goal. I'm out.

The fact is no one knows how good any of the QB's will be this draft, frankly I think they all suck, sans Barkely. Just because 4 rookies played their ass off this season doesn't mean crap. Alex Smith is the best option for a QB next season, period, end of story. He's had a great 2 seasons and is in the prime of his career. All of you will eat crow next fall

17 touchdowns and 13 touchdowns where you get benched for a better QB is not a great season.

He barely got 3k yards in 2011. He's a pud.

How many more games will we win than last season?  3?

Frankly, if the answer isn't 6-8, than you should still be looking for a primary option.

You're looking at 2010

2011- 61.3% 3,144yds 17 TD's 5 INT's 90.7 Rating
2012- 70.2% 1,737 yds 13 TD's 5 INT's 104.1 Rating (before he got hurt)

And led his team to the 2011 NFC championship game where they lost in OT

Dude he was 12 of 26 in that game for 196, the only TDs were big run after catch plays by Vernon Davis.  49ers were better everywhere except QB and Manning won that game for the Giants.

How much you want to bet Smith is not the QB to end the playoff win drought?

Smith is a better version of Cassel because he doesn’t turn the ball over. Smith turned the ball over six times last season, while Kansas City quarterbacks turned it over 29 times. He plays well in the West Coast system. And he'll benefit from a premier running game in Kansas City.

Quote
If Smith continues to play well and continues to value the ball, the Chiefs should be much better in 2013. Are they a surefire playoff team with Smith? Well, that depends on a lot of variables, but there is no question that the addition of Smith gives them a better chance than any of the other available options.

Just accept it and enjoy the ride. Division championship should be the main goal this year and it's definitely in reach

All sorts of new people in the organization now dude, you may want to give them a chance before you decide what they're going to do in the future. Reid has shown the balls to make QB changes in the past, so that's a good sign.

Oh he's a better version of Cassel? Goody Goody Gumdrops! That was my dream! A weak armed castoff like Cassel only a tiny bit better!

Thank goodness we're not taking a risk on someone with huge upside, a strong arm, and the possibility of greatness. Really glad we're going with the safe, game manager, who will get us back to 9 wins. The possibility of a Super Bowl is too difficult to even try for. Might as well settle for 9-7, sit back and enjoy the tailgating!

Controling the game and not turning it over won't get you to the Super Bowl. 9-7 here we come!  Its 2013 bud. You gotta throw down the field to win in this league.

And are you guys so delusional that you think our roster is comparable to what San Fran had in 2011? Yes, with a roster that elite and a stud coach like Harbaugh, Smith won't hold back a team too much. But the Chiefs aren't even in the ball park of of what the 49ers have.

I want a QB not a game manager.

Maybe I am being unreasonable, but I don't think I am.

I think Clark has done a fantastic job of turning a bunch of Chiefs fans into the same kind of fans that the Royals have.

Get rid of a super shitty player, sign a marginally better one and the fans are talking playoff wins and back in the positive mode ready to watch some games.

eff that.

You are right.  Game Manager is the PC title for shitty QB who doesn't turn the ball over a lot and is good at handing off to a running back.

I would be all for removing Game Manager from the football speak dictionary and just going back to calling them shitty QB's with good running backs.

Might as well trade Jamal Charles then since he's rough ridin' worthless. Have to throw 40 yards down the field every play to win in this league!!!
