It's going to be tougher to add players to this roster as Mahome's cap hit is going to jump significantly.  I think getting to the Super Bowl this season would have gone a long way to getting quality veterans searching for a ring but we'll see.

If we need to, we can convert Mahomes's roster bonus money into signing bonus money and spread it out over the next 5 years. The cap is going to go up significantly in the near future with how much the NFL is getting for its media rights deals starting in 2023. Mahomes's percentage of the cap is not going to be that high once the cap goes up.

His cap hit (total dollars) gets pretty ridiculous the next few years if we continue to convert his full salary but I'm not sure what the expectation is with the media rights deal.

Current Cap Hits For Mahomes
2022 - $36 million
2023 - $47 million
2024 - $44 million
2025 - $46 million
2026 - $42 million

Cap Hits For Mahomes With Bonus Conversion
2022 - $16 million
2023 - $52 million
2024 - $49 million
2025 - $51 million
2026 - $47 million

I just did a conversion of $25 million to keep the numbers round.

The NFL basically doubled the TV rights money that it will get. The cap will go up a lot due to this and make Mahomes high numbers not that high in terms of percentage cap hit. I wouldn't be surprised if the 2023 cap was $230 million.

We need to land on a receiver in this draft.

Agreed and I think we also need to get one on the FA market (insurance).  We experienced all year what it was like not having a legit #2, and we would be one injury away from that again.  Because of this, I'm more worried about solidifying offense than I am about about defense.  Why?  Because our defense can't get much worse.

Chiefs defense was 6th most in yds allowed and had the 4th least amount of sacks as a team this year.  Yikes!  Our best defense is when offense is kicking ass and controlling T.O.P.

I'd like D-Line/Pass rushing with our first pick to help control costs at a premium position, but we're probably only looking at a rotational guy at those positions in year 1 with that late of a pick.  Our draft last year was incredible, particularly given the capital we had, but none of the players were at premium $$ positions so they don't help with cap relief all that much.

I'd be fine with bringing Pringle back and then drafting some more WR competition for him (although I wouldn't be surprised if he gets overpaid elsewhere).  I think the problem is with Mahomes being patient in his progressions as much as it's getting a better #2.  If the rumor is true that the new Giants leadership isn't all that interested in keeping Toney, I think he could fit well within our offense.

Toney is even more of a polarizing figure at this point than OBJ (after rookie year).  Injured all the time, gone from practice quite a bit and then barely did a thing except for the dallas game where he looked all pro until he tried to kill someone by taking a shot at a players helmet with his fist.  I’m sure in Andy’s infinite second chance manta he’d be happy to bring him on, but the guy plays in the NFL as his second job, his primary gig appears to be in the music industry.  It’s all been a very head scratching rookie season to watch.

Agreed. Need some big, tall, fast, strong boys near the D line, particularly in light of likely departure(s). I'm sure we could plug and play a veteran receiver with a little tread left on the tires, if need be.

Dline is my number 1 priority. Our inability to put burrow on the ground while other teams got to him regularly highlighted it is a real problem.

Goodness, this is a bad take.  We have to focus on improving our pass rush above all else.

You missed my point.  Our pass rush can't get worse, so make sure you keep Mahomes happy with weapons.  We have 0 receivers on our roster under contract by this time next year.

Get fresh DL/DE in the draft....maybe get Melvin Ingram at a discount.  Cut Clark, lose Reed.  I don't see us getting a bad ass DE without major concessions.

Veach has a very busy offseason.

I hadn't followed his NFL time terribly much but loved him out of college. That's all disappointing to hear.

Whether events in that article are true, partly true, or completely false....I don't see the value in airing it out.  Doesn't seem like that would help the team or the fans.  Gotta get those clicks, though.

There is a lot of conjecture in that article that is presented as fact.  Definitively saying race has not played a factor in why Bienemy is missing out on HC jobs is not something that they could possibly know.  Maybe they have some contacts that have told them it was other reasons for a specific job or two, but they couldn't speak for every team.  That definitive statement at the top sets a pretty clear bar of their standards.  I believe a lot of the stuff they source but I think they went and connected some dots about things they have no clue about.

Yeah I don't think Bienemy actually calls that many plays.  I thought it was widely known Reid calls most of the plays anyway.

God bless anyone who was able to get through that. It was really really bad before they professed to know why Bienemy didn't get every job he's applied for, but that was the eject moment for me. They spent three paragraphs begging for legitimacy then immediately presented a charged opinion as a fact.

Yeah, that statement immediately following the disclaimer that they didn't have any real sources was where I quit, too. It's the sports equivalent of an article dax would post over in the pit.
