the draw options for Arsenal and AC Milan look scary.

tottenham just needs to avoid Valencia and Milan and I think they can book their tickets through to the quarter finals

the draw options for Barcelona also look very tough: Inter, Lyon, Roma, Marseille, Milan, Arsenal.  i hope they avoid Lyon, Roma, Milan and Arsenal.  an Inter draw would be interesting because of the dramatic semifinal match up between the 2 last year.  but Inter just isn't very good this year.

best matchup of the 1st round?

tottenham vs milan

OR

barca vs arsenal

i'll go w/ Milan vs Totty.  huge test for the new boys from north London - meaning Tottenham.  Arsenal (another N London club) will be crushed.  Tottenham has a great chance to advance.

i think it is a huge test for sure. dont see any way that arsenal advances against probably the best team in the world right now

the main thing for us would be if we can get van der vaart and defoe back to form by then, and if dawson can indeed anchor our back line

Maybe Arsenal should have won their group instead of coming runners up to a rough ridin' Ukrainian team

Thanks to the suggestion in the Credit Card thread (thanks stevedave, Rick Daris, and British Airways), my son and I are heading over to England that week on a soccer vacation.

PSG on the 12th
Man U on the 15th (possibly)
Chelsea on the 16th
Man City on the 17th (if they get by Thessoloniki)
Hull City on the 19th

Unfortunate that we had already booked our flights and are going to miss Spurs vs ACM.

isn't PSG a club whose fans are renowned for their racism?

sounds like a great time though.  while in Paris go to Musee D'Orsay

Yes, PSG is supposed to have a pretty bad racism problem. Flares, fighting, banners, etc.

We plan on sitting on neither end though so hopefully a good safe distance with good views of the festivities. I figure that French racist hooligans will make for good entertainment.

Thanks for the advice on the Musee.

Montpellier. Mid-table team.

Check out this from a previous game. We won't be sitting behind the goals.

here we go.  knockout stage (round of 16 starts tomorrow)

1st legs will be played Tuesday, Wednesday this week and next.  2 games each day.

big ones this week: AC Milan hosts Tottenham on Tuesday and Arsenal hosts Barcelona on Wednesday.  Milan and Barcelona both have somewhat comfortable leads in their respective domestic leagues.  Arsenal is a strong 2nd in England.  Should be some great games.

the other 2 games this week: Valencia hosts Schalke on Tuesday and Roma hosts Shaktar Donetsk on Wednesday.

pretty nervous for the match, as bale, modric, and kaboul are all out

van der vaart is back, and kranjcar has been playing well, but robinho definitely scares me

i think barca rolls arsenal, but then again, you never know in international play

to their defense, andrea pirlo and his fantastic hair are injured, so that is the reason their midfield was so shitty

hate milan though, i would love to see napoli take the league from them

plus gattuso is a huge mommy and he should be suspended for a while
