Hey so I know there are a lot of posters on this board who are really excited about all the loosening of regulations (good for business) and what I’m about to say has absolutely nothing to do with loosening of regulations — but you guys might want to consider figuring out where you can find purveyors of halal and kosher meats bc those still have all the standards that tend to keep your meats from giving you explosive diarrhea and/or killing you to death. Just food for thought (literally)

Unfortunately halal and kosher don’t do pork so you’re on your own when it comes to bacon

When i take my hard earned dollars into the (unregulated) market you think I’m going to bypass Hal’s Halal for…Reggie’s Veggies? Garrett’s Carrots? lmao. Nah man I’ll be stopping by Jake’s Steaks and Ray’s Fillets.  Gene’s Beans? No way Jose

Lentils, my friend. Lentils are a nutritional cheat code. Packed with protein and fiber and cheaper than a $2 whore. Mix with brown basmati rice, and you have a nutritional gruel that contains all of the elements necessary to sustain life.

Lentils belong to a class (family?) of plants called pulses. Canada produces by far the most in the world, which means you can expect lentils to shoot up to $0.50/lb., rather than the $0.30/lb. we're all used to.

Ordered Bulgar from amazon.  Going to have to wait a day.  ChatGPT says that anything other than wild rice would get too mushy, and wild rice has a distinct taste.  I am going to wait so that I can be true to the recipe before I begin bastardizing it.
