https://www.cbsnews.com/news/doge-cuts-cost-135-billion-analysis-elon-musk-department-of-government-efficiency/

This kind of reminds me of that time Starbucks threw themselves a parade for getting rid of plastic straws by replacing them with innovative lids…that contained more plastic than the straws they were getting rid of

At least Starbucks turns a profit and not everyone is laughing at them.  Doge is a joke

Starbucks also produces actual goods/services

the image in my mind of Elon with a LARPing with chainsaw at CPAC juxtaposed with the starving children who had USAID funding for their food stripped away is just gut wrenching

What if it has the opposite effect and causes people, on the whole, to develop better information hygiene habits out of sheer necessity?

It will be mildly funny for a few years while conservatives keep trying to reprogram mainstream AI bots to be "anti woke," but after that it's tough to see a great outcome. I hope I'm wrong.

Tough to see a great outcome with what? AI, generally?

AI with respect to people’s engagement with online content and general brain rot.

AI is a massively useful tool, but that includes using it for disinformation and self validation of deranged musings.

I mean, that's true about the sun eventually expanding and incinerating Earth and what not. But humans will be long gone before the 13 billion years or whatever until we get there. In my view, there's not much reason to plan further than 1,000 years out.

I’ve wanted to read this book but haven’t gotten around to it. I enjoyed Burnham’s “The Machiavellian’s.”
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

This is just rough ridin' bonkers. Rupert Murdoch is moving up my list of the worst rough ridin' people that have ever lived. I'm not positive he isn't close to the top. Just last night I was doing some yard work and my neighbor had this crap on outside and I had to listen to it for a bit. "No, it's the media portraying this all wrong. Donald Trump is actually the one upholding the constitution. The democrats are the ones trying to destroy it". It's just crap like this 24/7 and it has just rotted the brains of millions of people. I will never understand how people went from watching  Matlock or the Royals game every night to this crap.

I'll helpfully suggest it's a mere 1 billion years before in general the atmosphere/sun/etc will become too much for the earth to be habitable, and like 4-5 before it's incinerated. And obviously that is so much so far beyond us (I am being pedantic sorry). And I think even 1,000 years is far too long. We should probably not think more than 100 out. I would be quite confident regardless in the next 1000 years we'll be a space fairing civilization, as long as we don't destroy ourselves or the earth before hand.

We can't even agree on climate change being an issue over a 50 yr timeline.

Right, hence why even think that far ahead. now some thing you can't put off but if the sun was known to explode in 1000 years I wouldn't even care
