That is wild. It’s been over 8 yrs and I still can’t wrap my head around half this country and their inability to see what is blatantly in their face.

it's less than half, FWIW. (Admittedly, not worth much)

Vegas currently has the presidential odds at

Trump -110
Harris -110

An absolute dead heat, meaning Harris’ post-debate bump has completely withered away.

I do think that she’ll get a slight bump from the VP debate. I just don’t see Vance doing well vs a smooth talker like Walz.
I don’t see Vance doing well v literally anyone on the entire rough ridin' planet including little bottle babies and pets including fish

Yeah, it seems to breakdown to 30% of GOP are true believers and some mix of the rest are willing to allow him to get what they want. That is probably worse, imo.

Just like the other half of the country is asking when in the world did half the country turn into complete whack jobs who support censorship and believe everything the CIA, FBI and DOD tells them to believe, no matter how absolutely insane, have a bloodlust for perpetual war, while also reinventing McCarthyism in a new form, and introducing this sort of weird New Puritanism amalgamation which is a cross between sexing up the kids - to don't even look at me.

It's the strangest rough ridin' thing ever.

Even then he won't get half of the popular vote

That's really what it is, a core of people who will never change, and enablers or people who just hate the other side more than they hate him. I get you can "both sides" that to a bit but come on it's like, there is better the pubs can do.

I think pathetic is the best word for it.

I wish I understood the willingness to give up so much for someone like Trump. I can’t get it.  I get the want for something radically different from the past, but the willing suspension of pride, dignity, common sense, morality, etc is pathetic.

The current iteration of the democratic party is almost wholly unrecognizable.

As I've often said, it's so unrecognizable that you now accept the endorsement of people you wanted tried for War Crimes.

The old Democratic party was driven by world diplomacy, the current democratic party is now the party of #neocons.  The Department of State under the Biden administration is now just a wing of the Department of Defense and the military-industrial-intelligence complex.

On immigration we've gone from Democratic icons talking about how you can't just cross a river, warning of the threat of illegal immigration in their SOTU addresses, and talking about how illegal immigration was a rich Republican plot against the country and they were going to put an end to it . . .  to now essentially not even having a border, at least in the Southwest

The list is endless

I can’t get it.

Some people simply value their own feelings or deeply held instinctual beliefs over actual facts or evidence to the contrary. I think xenophobia is an excellent example of this.

Also, many people are just lousy at reasoning and critical thinking. Dax is a living, breathing example of someone failing to see differences of kind and degree literally on a day to day basis. Just above, he's suggesting that recent changes in the Democratic party are comparable to recent changes in the Republican party, which is just absurd.

In that sense, I can understand where people go wrong.

You guys are accepting endorsements from people that just a decade ago you wanted tried for war crimes.

You guys have completely revived McCarthyism, and you now eschew diplomacy on a wholesale level.

20 years ago you doubted everything that the military-intelligence complex told you, now you parrot everything they tell you to say

Once upon a time you were the champions of anti-censorship (even when one of your own was at the forefront of censorship) and now you quite literally want to rewrite the 1st amendment because you don't like what people say

Once upon a time you pounded on the table about the constitution and now it's an imperfect document that needs to be done away with

You're complete whack-a-doos

Trump sells $100,00 watches, a cryptocurrency, a Trump coin, Trump University, Trump steaks, etc. etc. What percent of his voters think "yeah he sells a lot of bullshit, but he's being honest about the plans he has when he's president!" vs how many of his votes think all his grifts are legitimate?

i think vance will probably mop the floor with walz in their debate, but people still won't like him.

Agreed. Walz apparently copped to being a bad debater when he was being vetted. His job is just to be likable.

JD has some heavy lifting to do. It seems that both sides are just wanting to see him be less likable, which is wild.

I think Vance is probably capable of winning, but I don't expect him to.

I think Walz has been a whole lot better than Vance. It's a pretty low bar to clear, though.

He seems nervous and unprepared and lets Vance off the hook too much

Yeah.  It was frustrating when they would cut them off.  The two would actually be having an interesting back-and-forth (refreshing!) and then the moderators would abruptly stop them.

Shut up! They’re engaging each other respectfully on substantive issues!  Let’em cook!

This was the first debate in a while I didn’t find pretty depressing.
