If I am told that Trump is proposing a 10% tariff on China and also that he is considering Jaime Dimon for treasury, I know which one is much more likely to happen.

I also don’t think that a complete overhaul of the immigration system is likely because industry would hate it. But there will be plenty of misery that can be created through a border patrol and ICE or national guard that will do some round ups and try to intimidate immigrants in to leaving.

I will also be shocked if trying to overturn Plyer v Doe is not on the judicial agenda.

Harris/Shapiro
Shapiro's remarks after Saturday were very impressive.

I kinda feel like it would have to be Kamala. Like, at least voters knew she would be Biden's successor if something happened to him.

I have no idea if it's true but I have seen a lot about Harris is required to be on the ticket (p or vp) or the biden/Harris campaign money would have to be refunded  :dunno:

You can’t just install a new nominee bc you don’t like how your current one is polling.  Well, not if you have any ethics whatsoever.

Why not? It is up to the parties who they nominate for the general election. Parties need to exercise more control over who gets nominated for the general elections. Would go a lot way toward fixing what is messed up with politics in this country.

I guess it depends on which type of democracy you believe in. I think institutionalism and process are not totally dead, but pretty much. I am probably being a little optimistic, but this does genuinely seem to be a democratic response to the population (polling) as much as a donor/insider revolt. It seems to me just because Joe Biden has the necessary delegates to proceed does not necessarily mean that is the most reflective of the will of the Democratic Party members or voting populace moving forward to the general.

Ethics doesn’t mean anything without reference to an agreed upon standard. What standard are you referencing in this context?

Dems need an entertainer. It has to be a cult of personality nominee if they want to win.

Obama ready to put Sleepy Joe out to pasture:

Edit: is there any potential replacement who could a) manage to get nominated by the dems and b) win a general election
I nominate Laura Kelly.
I can’t imagine a woman other than Harris getting the nomination. If it’s not Harris I’d have to imagine it would be the most seasoned (but youthful) white dude they can find. Maybe Newsom?

1.  i'm not aware of any american politicians that have called for higher birthrates.  there probably are a couple, but it's not a salient feature of any party or subparty's politics.

welp.

Kamala is the choice that would unite the dems the most. I think she has appeal across the washington set, and various non washington coalitions. I would like to think that the people who would roundly dismiss a woman of color are already trump voters. She might be the best case scenario to drum up turnout. Unlike Hilary, Harris can run on the Biden agenda, which he somehow accomplished more than Obama did. I'm not a fan, and I think she's a cop, but I'm more moved to vote for her than I am to vote for biden.

Democrats were too busy talking bad about their existing candidate (with no plan for an alternative) to talk bad about trump the last day and a half since he gave the extra-trumpy speech of the type that got him voted out not long ago.

As always, break up the united states.

Agreed, the 'Crats messaging about Trump has been pretty inept for years.  J.D. Vance has done a better job of talking crap on Trump than they have.

I heard an interview this week where they were saying there is a lot of legal discussion about if Joe drops out and Kamala isn’t the candidate, that the Dems may not have legal access to the money Joe has raised, but Kamala would if she is the candidate. They said that is around $250M.

Whoever the new candidate would be would need that money as rocket fuel. That may be the deciding factor, as long as Kamala is polling adequately.

at this point, i think it's appropriate to note that 1) delegates are mostly minor party functionaries (i.e. people with day jobs) very invested in the party's success, and 2) the biden campaign had the opportunity to select all of the delegates that are pledged to him.

Quote
unless biden decides he will drop out of the 2024 race or the delegates vote for someone else, he is the party's presumptive nominee
