This 5% rent cap suggestion from Biden seems like political pandering and obviously something the courts would stop.

Also seems foolish because why the eff would developers build more housing if rents were artificially limited by government intervention.  Don’t we need more housing?

It's the dumbest thing he has suggested in his entire presidency.

So Cali isn't rent controlling buildings until they hit year 15?

That’s better than on ALL properties, but still seems like an issue for municipalities and not the federal government.

A good FEDERAL effort to investigate is incentivizing supply of housing.

I read something a few weeks ago that Biden said they were investigating options on a program that would subsidize interest rates for first time home buyers.

They need to incentivize better zoning laws, cut all tariffs on raw building materials to zero, and loosen work permit requirements.

Zoning laws exist for a reason (and that reason isn’t some conspiracy to increase housing costs)

Agree that this is stupid pandering. Has Biden heard of the three branches of government? Federal policy regarding national rent controls would need to come from a bill in Congress, not an executive edict, correct?

Right now, Trumps platform includes a min tariff on all imported goods of something like 10%, and a tariff on all Chinese goods of something like 60%.  This will do the opposite.

Should help with prices at the grocery store, also (without all those immigrants buying all our food).

#blueanon is always going to stand tall with the cartels and the traffickers.

I think that this needs to be hammered on repeatedly by the Pubs.

I heard an interview with one of the GOP consultants that helped pen the Labor chapter of Project 2025(Ezra Klein interview earlier this week), and he noted that tariffs are "also revenue and a tax".  He didn't fully come out and say it, but it sounds like an end around to get closer to the flat tax that GOP'ers and Libertarians want.   If you tariff everything, then those who consume most or all of their paycheck for consumable goods will be effectively paying that tax.

Obama ready to put Sleepy Joe out to pasture:

Edit: is there any potential replacement who could a) manage to get nominated by the dems and b) win a general election
I nominate Laura Kelly.

I kinda feel like it would have to be Kamala. Like, at least voters knew she would be Biden's successor if something happened to him.
