While it is fascinating to speculate whether the shooter was right or left wing or how the cops let him get on the roof or how the Republicans are now very concerned with fiery language, this is really about being a country where we think it's important to have weapons like AR-15s for any citizen that wants one.
I mean, the best security detail in the world doesn't equal enough "good guys with guns" to keep a person safe in this country.

I think it's also worth considering that the Secret Service isn't a group of superheroes just because they wear suits and sunglasses and earpieces and look stern all the time. they're just men (and women) who frankly will never be perfect

I really hope and pray (seriously) that Trump uses this moment and his second term to bring more voters to his side by focusing less on scare tactics and demonizing and more on touting how everyone could benefit from a given policy.  For example, would love to see what he could do  if he felt like he didn’t need to pander at all to the religious far right.

Is it too much to ask for him to be more like George Bush senior and less like Rush Limbaugh in his second term?
This is an impossible ask. Every time Trump has been given the opportunity to do better he has degenerated into a shittier and more divisive person. I have zero hope that this this will make him less terrible.
I agree, but in each instance he was still in campaign mode. Is his psyche capable of change if he no longer needs the votes from the religious right? Or, ironically, will he necessarily turn on the religious right once he no longer needs them because that’s what he does?

Have you ever seen him behave like a respectable human being in his life? I don't  think this will suddenly make him stop being the insufferable piece of crap he's always been

This could be possible. I don't think he cares deep down about any of the culture war stuff so I could see him ignoring it if he wasn't planning to campaign again. I'm not 100% sure he is done campaigning if he wins in November. I think he really likes campaigning and I could see him coming up with something about how he is eligible for another term because his two terms weren't consecutive or the first term was continually undermined by "left wing Deep State Animals" or some such.

Sitting President . . . declared by his own administration as being too mentally feeble to stand tall before the man for his decades long mishandling of classified information.

Meanwhile the same administration attempted to weld power they were not granted against a political opponent.

This administration has been repeatedly dunked on by the courts (thankfully) for their fascistic tendencies and proclivities.

I think this term Trump’s focus is to get himself out of all the crimes he did. After that I don’t think he really gaf other than leaning into whoever is willing to kiss his ass the most.

Making sure all non-perimeter vantage points are secure seems pretty rudimentary imo.  At least in that setting.

It's pretty mind boggling that a guy in that setting was able to get off that shot.

It is pretty mind boggling on the surface but we don't really understand the full scope of the security operation (at least I don't). If anything I'm more surprised this hasn't happened more often given the possible logistics complexity.

Nobody has responded to this yet, which is surprising. I don’t think jeopardy has attached yet, so can’t the DOJ just have a regular USA (U.S. Attorney) refile the charges and most likely get a better judge?

He really only wants to be adored and like a coherent tax policy isn't exactly going to fire up a crowd like calling Mexicans rapists

Everyone that disagrees with us on anything is: A racist, literally Hitler, a fascist, homophobic, a Nazi . . . and probably a Putin sympathizer  (#blueanon for the past 8  years)

That was put on ice when Biden said there's no way he's stepping aside. I don't think that needle has anywhere to move.
