Yeah, I have to believe that no one will stand with Russia after a nuke strike. Maybe Iran and North Korea?

I bet our national security, state department and pentagon leadership are discussing this with Chinese counterparts frequently.

I also bet that those same Chinese leaders are discussing this with their Russian counterparts frequently.

The entire world will starve. There is no such thing as a single nuke…if they fire one, we will hit them back immediately.

I think we should call their bluff and count on China to keep Russia in line.

Naw

yeah i dont believe there would be instant retaliation

i also can't imagine what the international blowback for this would be

India and China are currently holding their noses to continue to do business but that would change things significantly

https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/22/europe/russia-mobilization-logistics-analysis-intl-hnk-ml/index.html

This is the real story going forward.  Drafting your average poor ass russian's son to go be slaughtered by vastly superior western weapons in a country your dumbass invaded/raped/pillaged is going to be the end for putin.  How on earth will putin convince the oligarchs and military officers that their children and chidren's children must sacrifice their rest of their lives to nuclear fallout because he got angry at nato for being superior?  They all know the fallout moves west to east and it will eff them for the rest of their natural lives, right?

all the maga cheering from dax won't save him.  maga takes yet another humiliating loss

It may be naive but I’m of the belief that we can sabotage a Russian nuclear launch preemptively

We have a good shot I am sure.  There are some crap ass nukes that the orcs have that I think you can wheel out and then run away (a russian strength) and detonate remotely.

I just don't see that there's actually much - apart from a strike in Kyiv - that doesn't severely compromise Russian forces, territory, and politics by orders of magnitude more than it does Ukraine.  And going after an external - NATO - target....

There's *a lot* of conventional response capability that can occur without responding to nuke in kind.  Every asset of the Black Sea fleet could easily disappear for one.  Every rail and border crossing that's more than a game trail could be reduced to rubble on the Ukraine side, to maintain appearances.

Per the history of Russia this is all par for the course, throw as many men at it, that'll fix the problem.

It is my belief that Russia would see that as just cause for a second nuke, and then some.

It would take more than a couple to eff up the globe, but just India and Pakistan getting into it with their baby nukes would be enough to screw the globe pretty hard.

To be sure, Putin's only play since UA's lines held in the early summer has been to be as random and left-field as possible.  Apart from the throwing manpower into the crucible aspect.

it makes sense to me that the partial mobilization is more about forcing the existing contract soldiers to remain in the army past their existing contract dates than it is about adding large numbers of conscripts.

if the early coverage of mobilization is representative, then this looks to have been wrong.  they really do seem like they want to conscript a large number of relatively untrained new troops.

There are reports of minorities being disproportionately conscripted.  Seems like Putin isn’t too concerned with their readiness or effectiveness.
